ACC Conference Final

If you missed Maryland beat Duke in OT of the ACC Championship game, you missed a fantastic game. Dang!! Duke would not give in easily and overcame a 10 pt lead late to force OT. However, their swarming defense was no match for Kristi Toliver who scored 24 pts and Marissa Coleman who had 28 pts, 15 rebs, and 6 assts. Final score 92-89.

Random thoughts....

1. Jantel Lavender is a freak.
2. I hope Rutgers comes back and wins this game against Louisville so they can perhaps get another shot at UConn. Because I think UConn can beat everybody else in this conference by at least 100 except Rutgers.
3. I really don't like Vanderbilt for some reason.

Toliver went 7/19 from the field (including 2/6 from three--her supposed specialty) and had 1 assist to 6 turnovers. The defense did a pretty good job on her. She's got a scoring mentality, so she's going to get her points.

There was no answer defensively for Coleman (10/18 from the field, 6 assists to 4 turnovers). Duke does not have a single player who can check her one-on-one, especially when she has the ball in her hands. A lesser team might try a triangle-and-two on Maryland, which is why the Terps will be susceptible to teams with athletes.

This was the first time I watched Lavender, maybe someone can enlighten me about her game. What makes her so special? Don't mean to knock on her, but maybe I missed something. Wisdom-Hilton looked pretty good on offense, some good moves, but looked like she was still recovering from her injury

I don't know why, but I like Vandy. I don't think they're that exciting to watch, but somehow they make it work with no real post player.

She does what an elite post player is supposed to do: score inside at a high rate, rebound at a double-digit clip, and defend her position. That's why people are high on her. She isn't a "game changer" or anything of the sort. She does a great job of being dominant.

If she was eligible in this draft, she'd be no less than a Top 4 pick. Perhaps that speaks more to how weak this draft is, especially when it comes to post players.

Did Louisville keep the deficit under 40? Inquiring minds want to know...;) This game completely slipped my mind for some reason. Like say it's freaking Tuesday and that tournament should have been over already.

EDIT: I just checked the score and the Cardinals barely kept it under ...thanks Rutgers.

As I make my way through watching my 5th conference championship game today, it has been fun viewing. The Evansville Purple Aces just finished off Creighton in what was their 4th upset win in as many days. It started with them beating Illinois St and Kristi Cirone. It may have just bought them a date with UConn next weekend but tasting the dance is what it's all about. Hecka run and fun way to win it today.

Sad to see the Old Dominion streak of conference tournament titles end at 17th straight.

I agree, I'm at a loss re: how the rest of the CAA caught up with them that quickly. Well, James Madison and certainly VCU seemed to be getting close last year, but still...
