[NBA] Comments that don't warrant a thread (FEB)

Anthony Edwards, during pre-game press conference: "It kind of is what it is." (when asked if he intends to play hard)

Anthony Edwards, after his team beats Team World: "It was all Wemby, he set the tone, so we had to play hard!"

The end result doesn't seem entirely justified. The Stars and Stripes teams split their two games against each other one to one. Seems like there should have been a tie breaker quarter at the end of that. But I was mostly entertained. Fox's game winner and Kawhi going crazy for 5 minutes were the highlights.

I feel like roster construction made that end result inevitable: put all the oldheads on one squad, and then make them have to play three games in a row in order to win? That was a beatdown waiting to happen.

I would add Wembanyama's performance to the list of highlights: he was doing his damnedest to drag Team World across the finish line.

I considered that last game a coaching loss. This is an All-Star game -- everybody on the bench is a starter so why not switch up the starting lineup in the third game of the day and put in players who are more fresh to start it off? I was only half watching at that point though so I'm not entirely sure who was on the floor during that huge run where the Stars team put it out of reach. I thought it was the same Stripes starters. t seemed like Wembanyama was playing really well early on but I was only half watching at that point too.

During the broadcast everyone involved was doing their best to pat themselves on the back about what a good idea this format was (except Edwards I suppose, who remains one of the more entertaining off-script player interviewees) but the players on the World team who are not Wemby seemed the least engaged in the end result. Giannis and SGA both missing the game due to injury and Luka playing hurt is likely why they lost their games but I wouldn't say that the USA vs. World showdown was such a resounding success that we need to see it again. Maybe keep the three team format since it's easier to get more players into the game this way but I wouldn't mind seeing them go back to either player's drafting their teams or some other way of sorting players where each team ends up with 3 guards, 3 forwards, and 2 bigs.

My biggest problem with the World team is that it turned what was considered to be a problem (mandatory selection of position-eligible players) and created an all-new problem (mandatory selection of international players). Like, no disrespect to Pascal Siakam but he had no business being an All-Star in 2026.

But, I guess on the plus side, if the Kings manage to become competitive in the next 3-4 years, that should be a guaranteed spot for Sabonis and/or Raynaud?

I’m more in favor of going back to the traditional West vs. East format and keeping it positionless. Instead of separating starters and reserves, just let fans vote for their favorite players, it’s meant to be a popularity contest anyway, including votes from players and media. Then allow each team’s coaches to decide their own rotations.

But at this point, having seen more than a dozen of these, I don't think I am their target audience anyway.
