Cold Remedies...

Okay, so I'm sick now for the third time in 7 weeks. I'm very sick of being sick. Does anybody have any personal cold remedies that they could share? I don't care if they're natural, over the counter, wacky, crazy, extreme, redneck, ethnic, voodoo, or Canadian. The worst part of the entire 'experience' is the congested nose. Not being able to breath through my nose makes me extremely angry, and will certainly keep me from sleep. I've just taken a double dose of NyQuil, two ibuprofen tablets, and a shot of Maker's Mark (for good measure). Right now I'm holding an ice cube up to my face in the belief that the swollen blood vessels in my nose will be forced to contract...so I'm somewhat desperate. Any ideas are good ideas.

I fight colds with vitamin C, echinacea, peppermint tea, and hot & sour soup. The last two are especially good for stuffy noses. There is very little that clears the sinuses quite as effectively as mint, menthol, or hot peppers.

6 ounces of lemon juice, a pinch of sea salt, a teaspoon of natural honey, and (here's the kicker) a shot of rum.

I don't know if this works or not, but my mother in law swears by it. And, worse case scenario, you have an excuse to have a cocktail.

Sleep!! Lots of sleep. There's no better way to fight anything than to rest and sleep.

If you have a hard time sleeping, try taking a Tylenol PM.

Also, Idk what other symptoms you have... but Mucinex (sp?) always works very well when I have congestion.

Here is what works for me every time:

Start by taking Airborne or Zicam religiously.
Drink lots of fluids (OJ, water, etc) and eat as much Garlic as you can (does not need to be raw)
Take Mucinex if you have congestion; stuff works wonders.
If you have diarreha <sp?> avoid all dairy... just an FYI.

That's it. You should be fixed in no time..

Horse Radish does wonders too:).
