Colby Jones

It's not just shooting that we should look at to measure a player...his PERS is 19.0 which means he did a lot on the court...only behind Fox and Sabonis.

Agree - but the player starting next to Fox has to be a knock down shooter. Colby’s feel for the game is impressive - and his float game is crazy good - but the Kings need volume and accuracy from 3 with a Fox & Ox lineup.

Colby has been impressive. I think he's going to get some assists and some steals while playing solid defense for a rookie second rounder. Already looks like the Kings best 2nd round pick since IT.

I have a feeling his finishing and shot will need a lot of improvement. If I had to guess, I'd say he'll probably have roughly the same shooting splits that Davion had his rookie year. A solid shooting preseason doesn't erase 3 years of inconsistent shooting and sub 70% FT shooting in college.

No. He doesn't. He absolutely does NOT need to be a knock down shooter. He needs to be a LOCK DOWN DEFENDER, who can play make and also hit shots when open.

A Doug Christie.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking.
Why not Edwards in starting lineup? He would guard best wing like Douggie.

Fox Edwards Murray Barnes Sabonis
Davion Monk Duarte Sasha McGee

Huerter in TD role meaning mins depend on if he can hit shots.
Would like to see if Colby can beat out Duarte.

I want Colby to start getting minutes in the Lakers game. Duarte and Colby need more minutes, Heurter less minutes. Heurter looks like nothing has changed from the end of last season, which is not good.

So far as that goes, Terence Davis is still an unrestricted free agent, and the Kings have an empty roster spot.

Shooting was one of the bigger questions about him coming out of college so I don’t think the added muscle is to blame. If he can just get to 35 percent or better and tighten up the handle he could be a real asset for us moving forward. Great size and he just seems to make an impact whenever he is out there, we saw it in summer league.

Yup. In that scenario, I'd rather trade Huerter and bring back Davis, if he recovers well from his injury. Should have never signed Duarte over him in the first place, when you had invested two seasons in developing TD,... but I get that they wanted to try something different

Watched some of the game last night to get a look at Colby. Man, him and Keon are a breath of fresh air as perimeter defensive wings. Just absolutely flawless archetypes to surround our offensive stars with.

Not sure if either guy ever becomes a premium offensive player, but I have a lot of faith in both guys being excellent defensive NBA players. And in Colby's case, I think he's a talented passer.

Fox/Ells/Jones/Murray/Sabonis is a bit small, but given how much HB has struggled lately it could be worth trying since without Monk and K'von the Kings aren't likely to blow teams off the floor with scoring.

Of course now that I said that Barnes will come back and have one of his big scoring games next time out only to be a non-factor a game or two later.

Yeah, I'm of mind that us, as a bad defensive team, should just get our good defensive players on the floor and worry about size later. That's paid huge dividends with Keon, even playing him in a lot of 3 guard sets at the 3 and been super effective with the Kings actually being really solid since he's been in the rotation.

Colby is just like RIGHT on the cusp of being a little small at the 3. But I think he can handle it in a lot of match-ups.

Obviously Brown will go G now if the other team is small like the Nets were. Jones provides more bulk for sure, but the 5 man ratings for Fox/Monk/Ellis/Keegan/Domas is horrendous. I guess whether or not the extra size from Jones being good enough is worth exploring.

We haven’t talked much about Colby and his role next year. I know a lot is up in the air with Monk etc but are we sleeping on Jones. Three year college player that was largely billed NBA ready. Showed promise in summer league. Destroyed the Gleague. Showed out in spurts with the big club. He needs to make his threes and tighten up the handle but he played physical, is a great rebounder, the floater is money and plays winning basketball. At the very minimum he needs to be getting Duarte type minutes but j wonder what he would look like with extended and consistent minutes.

Will be solid as soon as he can make his 3’s at a good rate

Still excited about him, saw a lot of good things. I wonder if the plan is to move Heurter to the 6 man role if we lose Monk, have Ellis remain the starter, then have Jones soak up Duarte’s mins.
I would say that is the best case scenario if we lose Monk. (If we keep him the best case is trade Kev and that). Only Monte and Brown know if he is ready.
