Clippers F Elton Brand ruptures Achilles' tendon in workout
August 3, 2007
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Los Angeles Clippers forward Elton Brand ruptured his left Achilles' tendon on Friday during his daily workout.
Brand, 28, will undergo surgery but plans for the operation have not been finalized yet, the Clippers said.
Last month, Brand -- a veteran of eight NBA seasons -- withdrew from the U.S. national team because of an injury. He averaged 20.5 points and 9.3 rebounds last season, when the Clippers failed to make the playoffs.

Wow, the Clippers are cursed. That's another team who won't be competing with us for that oh so great 8th seed. Get well soon to EB though.

DOUBLE OUCH!! Man...that sucks big time for Elton, a true class act. My best wishes for a full...or somewhat full recovery...I know Achilles injuries arent the easiest to come back from in sports...I think I remember Danny Manning doing it a COUPLE of times, let alone once. Man, sucks to hear that about Elton, nonetheless, though.

Damn that sucks for Elton and his well-wishers like myself.

Takes about a full year to recover from. He likely won't set foot on the court this season.

This comes on top of Shawn Livingston's extremely severe knee injury. The latest I heard is SL is not likely to play this season at all, or certainly not before well into '08. Now losing for this upcoming season Elton Brand makes the Clippers a lottery team before a single game has been played - DEVASTATING.

Man achilles rupturing.... That's worse than an ACL tear.

That's the kind of injury that will hit you long term. Not a big deal since Elton Brand was a post player and shot jump shots, but he'll lose some quickness on defense and won't block as many shots.

Something like an achillies you can't even really test that much for a year, because you risk rupturing it again. That's a nasty injury. He's out for a season or more.

The achillies is a crazy tendon to. When it tears it rolls up the back side of the leg inside. Tha'ts how tight it's pulled.

While that can happen I don't think it happens every time. Hopefully his didn't do this because I think it means a larger incision.

Get well soon!

Another team that will win as little as us.

And You see what happened when You work on Your game over the summer

It might be slighly bigger, but I'm going to venture to say that if you can insert breast implants through the belly button, you can fish a tendon out lol.

Well, I remember the Rock or somebody was on a late night talkshow and during the filming for some football movie he was in he ruptured his and it rolled up the back of his leg. I remember him saying something about how that seriously complicated things and they had to go in through the muscle or something.

Oh wow....... poor Clipps..... first Shaun Livingston now Elton Brand..... so both are gonna miss the whole season now?

I think I've read somewhere that Shaun's ahead of his healing schedule.

Yeah, I saw that on ESPN yesterday, in fact...they said he's come a long way and he is ahead of schedule. Man, that was one of the scariest injuries I've ever seen in sports...right up there with Joe Theisman, Tim Krumrie and Napoleon McCallum.

Just saw they singed Knight to shore up the PG spot. With a glaring hole now in the post, do you think they'd be willing to swap Cassell for SAR?

This is terrible news to me for two reasons:

1. Of course, this is a horrendous injury for Elton to sustain. I just feel so sorry for the guy. This kind of stuff shouldn't happen to anyone

2. This DEFINITELY puts the Clippers BELOW the Kings in the WC rankings.

Brand's Achilles surgery a success

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Los Angeles Clippers forward Elton Brand underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair his ruptured left Achilles tendon.
The operation was performed by orthopedic surgeon Craig Morgan in Wilmington, Del. Brand, 28, injured the tendon during his daily workout last Friday.
He averaged 20.5 points and 9.3 rebounds last season.
While there has been no timetable set for his return to the court, he is expected to miss at least the first several months of the season.
He will wear a cast for six weeks, then a walking boot for another six.
