Chuck, Kenny, Ernie and C-Webb making sense

Ok, since when did this thread become a personal attack on the Kings fanbase? We went from talking about the Lakers style of play to how half of Kings fans are now Laker fans?

Dude, first of all - you have no logical evidence for your statement anyways. How many of us "yall," are Laker fans???

Most of us here and many Kings fans were supporting this team through thick and thin through the 80s and the 90s. Remember those years? Yeah, that's called loyalty.
Or does your memory only go back to 99-current? I'm wondering if your knowledge of basketball only goes back that far too?
Well, it started in post #8 of the 1st page. Miller started dissing the Lakers fanbase, so I responded by dissing the Kings fanbase. I'm done with my jabs:p so I'm being a good boy now.

If you stick around, you'll have to have a thicker skin than that. It's just not worth it.

Like you, I'm a long time fan. My dad used to take us to the Sports Arena back in the 60's when the Lakers wore blue and white...(pre Fabulous Forum days.)

This is a nice board with many nice people, (even if they are Kings fans ;)). There's a lot more going on here than basketball.

Oh I have thick skin lol. I was just throwin some jabs back. All in fun. I heard we have a rivalry with Sacramento, so what fun is a rivalry without a little smack talk?

Hey, I bleed Kings purple. But, would I like to see Kobe 4 years ago wearing our jersey? Yes.
Shaq in a Kings Jersey, even after the bashing? Yes.
Magic Johnson? Kareem? Yes. Yes.

The Lakers are blessed to be based in the attractive and affluent L.A. Area, where all these superstars would like to play.

That being said, it also seems to inflate a persons ego, the elite feeling that must come from wearing a Lakers Jersey. Hell, look at Luke Walton. Dude is nothing and he was getting all kinds of media attention for a while.

The Lakers seem to always be very talented, but their sense of entitlement makes me sick. That's why I hate that team.

I agree. The guys mentioned the "switch mentality" more than once. And they said the same thing you've said - that the Lakers aren't going to be able to give less than 100% and come from behind once they're facing tough competition.
:: sighs ::

You have no idea how deep this runs -- not just the Lakers, but their fans as well.

I'm watching Game 2 with some friends at the house, two Laker fans, one neutral, and myself. The Lakers go up 8 points with seven minutes left in the first quarter, and the Laker fans are putting the Rockets away for the series. No more wins, over in five. They were serious, seriously. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

And here's the thing: before the series started, the LA media had the Lakers either sweeping Houston or winning in five. This is before Yao went down. And when Houston "stole" Game 1, it was because the Rockets played the best game of their lives and the Lakers played the worst game of theirs. It wasn't because the Lakers got outhustled, never bothered to show any emotion, and lost the game because they were outplayed. No, it was because the Lakers didn't take the Rockets seriously, and now that they had won Game 1, it was going to be over in five.

Now, with certain individuals picking against the Lakers in the WCF, the LA media is pretending that no one is giving them a chance. ESPN's poll had the Lakers favored 60/40, and one of the afternoon radio show hosts got on the air and said "everyone is doubting the Lakers, no one thinks they have a chance to win, and if you pick the Lakers, people are going to call you a homer"! I'm not making this up. It's like these people down here can't fathom the idea that certain basketball fans don't worship the ground the Lakers walk on. Colin Cowherd said this morning that he turned off "Kobe: Doin Work" 20 minutes in because it was boring (and it was), and Laker fans dogged him all day long for being a Kobe hater. It never ends.

And, like you said, this team thinks they can just turn it on and win whatever game they need to, that they can just cruise, because this is their year. Maybe they are that good, and maybe they do win the championship, but when I look at a team like the Cavs and the way they've approached their postseason -- not just the fact that they haven't lost a game, but the way they have never looked like they weren't serious about winning a championship -- there's a huge difference between them and the Lakers. Huge difference. And that's why Mark Jackson said he's done picking the Lakers, not because he doesn't like them or thinks that they can't win, but because they aren't hungry like the Nuggets and the Cavs are.

As much as I dislike the Lakers, it's their fans that really bug the hell out of me. As much of a sense of entitlement the players have, the fans believe that they "deserve" to win every year, that Kobe "deserves" a championship and Finals MVP, that Phil "deserves" a tenth ring, etc. Bratty, petulant, arrogant Laker fans are the biggest reason I don't like the Lakers.

I was listening to sportstalk in LA on my way home from work and it's amazing that even hosts for these shows fail to see why the Lakers are being so criticized for this one series. The Lakers failing to play with effort wasn't for this one series, it began in the regular season when they would get comfortable 4th quarter leads and let teams like Philadelphia and Golden State come back into the games. It dragged on to the first round with Utah where they had 20 point leads in the third only to give it up. Then they actually compared the Lakers to the Bulls team saying how the Bulls would probably never get this much criticism when they lost in the playoffs to the Knicks teams.
1. The Knicks teams in the early 90's were tough championship contenders each year. A tough series was expected whenever they met.
2. I don't recall the Knicks losing Patrick Ewing mid series and throwing out a 6'6" center to replace him.
3. Even though the Bulls lost to the Knicks it wasn't because lack of effort, those Bulls teams would give it their all each game.
No one expects any team to go into the playoffs and waltz through the competition, if you put the effort and dedication into each game, thats all people ask for. Charles and Kenny hit it right on the spot, the Lakers don't deserve to win the championship.
I never liked the Spurs, but when they won, I respected them as champions because they worked hard, I can't say that about the Lakers.

What would be nice is for you to show a little respect when you're a guest in someone else's house. Laker fans like hoopsfan and Gargamel (and even RKid ;)) are welcome because they bring good discussions to the table. In all the posts I read, you brought nothing of substance.

This is our house. Behave yourself or don't let the door hit you on the arse on your way out.

Thanks...

Now, back to the topic at hand...

Ironically enough, the visit by Haiku30 pretty much just proved the point a lot of us were trying to make about the mentality of way too many Laker fans.

I want to see good basketball tomorrow night and for the rest of the WCF. I do not want to see arrogant young men with misplaced senses of entitlement acting as though they don't have to give their all because of the jersey they wear.

I'm willing to bet I'm going to be at least partially disappointed.

GO DENVER!

I do not think Magic Johnson and Kareem should be lumped together with Kobe and Shaq. Two of them are and were class acts; two of them are buffoons. I'll let you figure out which is which...

I would NOT like to see Kobe in a Kings jersey and I will go so far as to say that if he was a King, I would not bother to take the trip down to Sacramento. I prefer my "heroes" to have a little more class.
