Chuck, Kenny, Ernie and C-Webb making sense

In the post-game show on TNT, all four guys made some very interesting observations about the Lakers. I was interested because it seems to me more and more people are seeing what I - the biased Kings fan - have been seeing for quite some time.

Chuck said that although he thinks the Lakers will probably win, he doesn't think they deserve it. And Kenny added that he agreed, because the Lakers don't respect the league. He went on to explain that the Lakers act like it's all a walk in the park; they don't give their best every night. Instead, they dog it or just make it obvious they don't care.

Webb made some very good points about Denver. He said they're going to bring it every night and if they do, the Lakers just might be in for a big shock.

This honestly isn't a Laker-bashing thread. It's more about trying to explain - over and above the whole rival thing - why they irritate me (and apparently a lot of other NBA fans).

I want a team to give their all every night. I don't want them to act as though they're entitled to more than anyone else because of the name on the front of their jerseys.

I'd like to see team fans who don't boo the national anthem simply because it includes the word "rockets"...

I'd like to see team fans who cheer for their team to do well; not who stand up and chant "We want tacos."

I guess this is turning into a bit of a Laker bashing thread after all, but I guess that's just the way it goes.

I root for them to lose to Denver but if they do head to the finals, I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever their swagger and sense of entitlement will go for naught. I do not think the Lakers - finals experience notwithstanding - can beat Lebron James.

IMO the Lakers only show when they realize the game is extremely important and that won't work when the competition gets better. They have to be playing 100% every quarter of every game if they reach it to the finals and will likely have to show up every game in this coming series. I don't see them beating Cleveland, who are extremely focused and definitely deserve it. Cleveland respects the league and will try to win every game like it is game 7.

I agree. The guys mentioned the "switch mentality" more than once. And they said the same thing you've said - that the Lakers aren't going to be able to give less than 100% and come from behind once they're facing tough competition.

The Pistons had that mentality as well after winning the championship--the difference was that they had already won the championship, and they weren't laden with what stars--just a lot of great starters and fill-in-the-blanks type players. So they became a one-hit wonder this decade and their team eventually disintegrated as Chauncey Billups arguably got traded for less than market value.

The Lakers do have that off switch weakness, which is surprising because if they realize how much their talent level collectively towers over the remaining contenders, they would have a great chance of winning the championship. This is best shown in their disparities of winning--they led by 30 at some point tonight, won by 40 in another game, and yet the series...went to 7? This just illustrates a pattern of laziness on one of the league's most talented teams. Of course there's a multitude of reasons--perceived rep of softness, no great enforcers on the team, a laid back coach, inability to sustain leads/respond well, youth--and it's probably a little bit of all of them.

Denver matches up well with the Lakers and have tons of athleticism in many of their primary positions, good defensive players/stoppers, and can arguably score as well as the Lakers on most nights, so this might be a barnburner especially since the Lakers just don't even have their head on straight as of now. I think the Lakers will win based on homecourt advantage, but if they don't watch out Denver may steal this in 6 or 7.

This is not the first time that a Laker team was arguably the MOST talented team (2004.) We all know what happen to them.

I think they rely too much on, and we've heard this term before, their "switch." The one they can turn on at any time depending upon the magnitude of the game.

They better turn that switch to overdrive right now or they are in for a rude awakening come Denver.

Oh, there's no perceived about this one - they are soft.

cause that sure is disrespectful

the more reason to hate laker fans eh

Yeah I agree with all of that. But what really irritates me is the part where they think they are entitled to more than other fans or teams. Like how Magic was saying after they got stomped out in game 4, that their fans deserved better and they disgraced their team because they're the lakers. What the hell, seriously? Don't ALL fans deserve better than to have their team not give a damn? Didn't we deserve better from our team than a 17 win season? Didn't we deserve better from the refs in 2002? Don't Rockets fans deserve better than to have their wins in that series cheapened by people saying the lakers only lost those games because they weren't playing hard, despite Houston playing their heart out without 3 of their top 8 players?

I am sick of hearing about their loyalty. Give me a freaking break. Teams like Kings, Hawks, Pacers, Knicks, have loyal fans. It's a lot easier to be loyal when your team gets a championship 1 every 5 years and when they have other teams handing them great players like the Gasol trade. If they had the worst team in the league, I could say their loyalty deserves better. But they were in the freaking 2nd round of the playoffs. Sorry but they don't deserve any better than any other fan base or team.

It is mainly the arrogance that pisses me off. It's like people who are fans just because it's "cool" to be a lakers fan, not because they know anything about basketball. That's what is nauseating about the whole thing. I've met plenty of knowledgeable laker fans and they're cool, but the people who really make me mad are the people who are like "KObey is teh gr8st of al tyme yo! better than the mikel jordon guy, better than that guy Majik Jonshon, and better than that lil stupid celtik guy lary burd! Der nuthing compared to kobey!"

Sorry but with 13 championships for them and 30 some odd WCF trips I don't want to hear how they deserve better just because they're the lakers, how their fans deserve better because they're loyal, because it's not hard to be loyal to a good team. Seriously, these people get mad whenever something's not handed to them and it's disgusting.

seriously that year broke my heart.. i lost trust to the league and everything basketball that time.. laker fans have been throwing words like "your queens suck", "move on we won we were better". the more i hear it from them the more im convinced how uneducated and sexist most of them are.. the arrogance and audacity to claim that they will be champs and putting kobe in a pedestal equaling micheals. most of the laker fans i know are fans of the lakers cause of Kobe "mr. Colorado" bryant. how blind are they when that man asked for a trade cause he wasnt winning? etc.

kobe is the greatest my *** hes an overhyped player, overated leader, overated champion. the arrogance of the man is beyond me. loyal fans? its easy to be loyal to a team that constantly makes the playoffs.. lakers isnt a team its just a bunch of guys stacked in every position.. a land where hyperbole and exaggeration happens. well if there are laker fans here in the board im no disrespect to you "true laker fans" im just sick of those whom i have encountered all arrogant and cocky..

going back 2002.. a heart breaker truly

Do i still believe in the kings: i never stopped believing. ill be a kings fan forever

can you expect me to believe in the league again? No.. there will always be doubt.

cant wait till the kings and arco become a lions den again heres to the future

there's a quick line in today's daily dime about how a team tends to take on the characteristics of their coach. with phil jackson being so placid about everything, i can see how that might trickle down to the team, and ultimately take the edge off of their "hunger" (if they had any to begin with).

truth be told though, i think this season's lakers are a lot less arrogant than this season's celtics.

Is that why half the Kings fanbase now wears Laker jerseys? Funny how now that the Kings suck half yall are now back to being Laker fans again. Hawks, Lakers, Celtics and Knicks have loyal fans. Sac-town? lol

Um, those aren't Kings fans - they are fans of those teams who can finally buy tickets to get into ARCO after the home ticket sellout streak by Kings fans.

sad the streak kind of stopped but its hard to support the kind of team and coach they put out there.. but that didnt stop us from being kings fans.. just cause were not in arco that doesnt mean were no longer kings fans..

i havent been to an arco game..but i support the kings to the max.. does that make me not loyal?

easy to be a fan when your team is always winning

the real test is when they are starting to fall...

lakers and kings will meet halfway...

while were rising and they are falling

they cant ride the kobe train forever and the A-Train seems to be derailed every other season

You're right. It is easy. I'm blessed to be a 3rd generation Lakerfan. Thick and thin fan, always been. Always will be. Purple and gold is in my families DNA.

You're also right about Kobe. We cant ride the Kobe train forever, however when Kobe is gone, there will be another just like there was Magic, West, Wilt, Baylor, Goodrich, etc.

another guy to replace kobe? how long will that take? best case scenario for the lakers is to keep giving prime players fat contracts. till they have a load of overpaid players.... i wouldnt mind for the lakers to pay walton 10 mil for 3 years... is vujacic worth that contract i dont think half of the lakers roster actually earn those paychecks

but what do i care about them their the lakers for ****s sake :p

well seeing that haiku30 is from a long line of family tradition lakers i cant say hes a faker... i actually respect some real laker fans...sadly the number of faker fans i hate are more than the laker fans i respect.

From one Laker fan to "another"...cool it. Remember where you are or you won't be around here for long. There's a lot of games left to be played, so shut it.

See, if your family is long time laker fans, I don't have a problem with that. I'm the same way with the 49ers, my mom and grandmother were fans of them since the 70s and I grew up watching young and rice. But the people who REALLY pee me off as an NBA fan are the people who are just fans because of kobe. Sorry, but I don't like the people who don't know anything about basketball. Or the people who are classless. If you are a fan of them and you stay classy and you don't jock kobe like he's MJ then more power to you.

And you want to talk crap about the people who show up to arco in jerseys of other teams, but Northern CA stretches from the bay area to redding so all in all it's a pretty big area. Of course there are going to be laker fans and cavs fans and celtic fans up here. But at the same time, most of the kings fans stay loyal to the kings. But when your team puts a 17-65 product on the floor and the economy is royally jacked up and you got people getting foreclosed on, losing their cars, etc. you can't blame people for not showing up to see a 17-65 team. I only went to 1 game last year, the vlade divac jersey retirement game. But I watched or listened on the radio to all 82 games+preseason. So you can't say people are loyal. You could say the same thing about hawks fans, they had a notoriously empty arena while they were out of the playoffs. Now they're good they're packing the arena. And when the kings aren't the worst team we usually do pack the arena. 1 year is nothing to talk about in the grand scheme of things.

Ok, since when did this thread become a personal attack on the Kings fanbase? We went from talking about the Lakers style of play to how half of Kings fans are now Laker fans?

Dude, first of all - you have no logical evidence for your statement anyways. How many of us "yall," are Laker fans???

Most of us here and many Kings fans were supporting this team through thick and thin through the 80s and the 90s. Remember those years? Yeah, that's called loyalty.
Or does your memory only go back to 99-current? I'm wondering if your knowledge of basketball only goes back that far too?
