In the post-game show on TNT, all four guys made some very interesting observations about the Lakers. I was interested because it seems to me more and more people are seeing what I - the biased Kings fan - have been seeing for quite some time.
Chuck said that although he thinks the Lakers will probably win, he doesn't think they deserve it. And Kenny added that he agreed, because the Lakers don't respect the league. He went on to explain that the Lakers act like it's all a walk in the park; they don't give their best every night. Instead, they dog it or just make it obvious they don't care.
Webb made some very good points about Denver. He said they're going to bring it every night and if they do, the Lakers just might be in for a big shock.
This honestly isn't a Laker-bashing thread. It's more about trying to explain - over and above the whole rival thing - why they irritate me (and apparently a lot of other NBA fans).
I want a team to give their all every night. I don't want them to act as though they're entitled to more than anyone else because of the name on the front of their jerseys.
I'd like to see team fans who don't boo the national anthem simply because it includes the word "rockets"...
I'd like to see team fans who cheer for their team to do well; not who stand up and chant "We want tacos."
I guess this is turning into a bit of a Laker bashing thread after all, but I guess that's just the way it goes.
I root for them to lose to Denver but if they do head to the finals, I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever their swagger and sense of entitlement will go for naught. I do not think the Lakers - finals experience notwithstanding - can beat Lebron James.
