DALLAS (AP) -- Mavericks guard Doug Christie missed Dallas' game against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night, and will be sidelined indefinitely after returning to his home in Seattle to have his sore right ankle examined by his personal physician.

Christie has been having problems with the ankle despite starting Dallas' first seven games this season.

A free-agent signing by Dallas during the summer, Christie had bone spurs removed from his right ankle during the offseason. The defensive specialist is averaging 2.6 points and 1.9 rebounds this season.

Marquis Daniels replaced him in the starting lineup against the Hawks.

Ouch..

As thought, DC starting would ultimately backfire on the Mavs. I was kinda surprised to see him starting (including pre-season), rather than coming off the bench.

Sucks for DC...unfortunate really...I thought everything was gonna just great for him (well as great as it can get considering your playing for the Mavs)...

This is definetly Daniels time to shine though...should be interesting to see how he fairs in his new starting role...

I love Doug, and miss his presence on this roster. But...

...better them than us.

Get well soon, Doug!

Remember all the times over the summer that people on this board thought the Kings should resign Christie? This is why they didn't.

I feel bad for him though. Unfortunately it might be time for DC to think about hanging them up. His body is just not cooperating with him anymore.

Ditto on that one, insyder. DC definitely one of my favorite Kings in the Sacramento era. Sorry to see this happening to him. :(

It's interesting to see another team do what we have done in the past...be overly impressed with how someone played against us in the past and then when that person became available bring him on board and over value him, all the while ignoring the fact that he has lingering injuries. When the Mavs announced he would be their starting SG over Marquis Daniels I almost split a gut. I love DC to death, especially for the time he gave us but at this point in his career he should be the wise vet coming off the bench to help the youngsters, not be a starter. Oh well, human nature I guess and speaks volumes about how much you respect a player to take this sort of gamble.
