No...but that was great. Chris Webber at his best...the written word would not do him justice. Some real good stuff. If I am around for the rebroadcast this afternoon (should be, have to be here to recieve something in the mail), I'll get it from the TV-cast.

Now, as requested: Chris Webber post game comments 2-22-05

Webb: We've had some great years together, so its hard to get excited over one game, you know what I mean? We expect a high level of ourselves, so I'm happy the way we played. Very excited, very happy but, after you win it and the relief it over its like so what. We've got Dallas and I remember last time we played them. So we weren't looking ahead but I couldn't wait till this game was over to look forward to the 12 day road trip.
Reporter: Other than a W what kind of [inaudible]
Webb: You know, I don't know. This road trip we lost but, come on now guys. There was a couple of two point games, three point games, couple calls either way and you just make stops earlier in the game so you don't let yourself in that position. But besides that, we're not going to hell in a hand basket. 5th best record in the L and everybody needs to start appreciating that. That don't come easy and we'll all see that one day. We've got the 5th best record in the L and lets keep playing, lets make it to the playoffs and see what happens. But everything else, really for me its just keep blinders on a just get to the next game. Get to the next game, get to the next game, try to stay healthy, get to the next game. We're playing well and we need to improve. Hopefully we will on the road because if we don't we're going to come back with our tails between our legs.

Webb: Nothing but a championship. So if nothing but a championship it good enough, then 2nd through 5th do not matter, right? So winning-loosing one game doesn't matter, you know what I mean. We got to get better to get to the playoffs, that's what I mean. I've been on some sports cities, and I know how its goes, but we cant' do nothing until we can do something. Right now we just need to make sure we become students. We study, we know our movements. We know when our bodies are hurting so we don't take 50 jumpers-meaning myself. We know when we need to get inside, we know when we need to pass, we know when Mike needs to touch the ball, we need know when Matt needs to come in so he can rebound at the 3 spot. I mean its just the thing of getting to know yourself, you know what I mean? That's what it is, we needs to get to know ourselves.
The waiter: The trade deadline is Thursday, do you think about that, is it just another day?
Webb: What you know something that I don't know?....Tell me the inside scoop, man.

Another reporter: Do you hear every year you are going to NY?
Webb: Man I've heard so much....But I didn't hear I was coming to Sacramento, though.

Webb: That's when you need to worry, when you don't hear about it... I don't want to trade this for the world. So...all you can do is sit and wait.
The Waiter again: But why is it always you?
Webb: That's the question, why is it? Not the trade deadline, everything, why is it?
Waiter: But its always you

Webb: Its something I've got to live with. If an old lady falls down on the street, I did it.

Continuing where he left off, he went on to say how before he used to let all of that get to him, he used be introverted and stay home just talking on the phone to friends, but now he's move on from that and learned. He also commented on how he tells the guys not to read the papers or listen to the radio, etc., but they do and they tell him. Also even if he says it wasn't or its not him, people won't believe him anyways
Also cut out, on the road trip, was him talking about how he likes to play on the road, but you have to show up on the road, something that he didn't do this last trip. He commented on how the last two games of the road trip was "tough" for him.
And finally, talking about the team he said "I still believe that we can win a championship and that it where my faith lies"

You know something - people always criticize Chris for his comments to the media, and sometimes they are legitamately justified.....but this was one of the best interviews I have ever heard a sports player give. Webber admitted his flaws as well as acknowledged some serious team weaknesses. Best of all - he made it clear that he will settle for nothing less than a championship. There is nothing that I would like more than for the Kings to a win a championship and all the Webber-haters be silenced once and for all.

Thanks for the transcript Reina, you are awesome! I watched the interview last night, and I have to say that was Webb at his all time best! He was smiling, laughing, and having fun. I loved it when he said he wouldn't trade this for the world, I just hope Petrie feels the same about him. I REALLY would hate to see him traded & tomorrow can't come soon enough for me.
