Chris Daniels : David Stern backing Sacramento.

And you do realize that markets have more to do with sponsors than anything else, right? Seattle has more sponsorship opportunities than Sacramento. Again, not an opinion thing. It's a fact. Now enthusiastic and well connected owners can do a lot to bring it as much corporate support as possible and it certainly seems like Vivek will be that kind of owner but its not an even playing field to begin with.

And did you know Microsoft and Amazon the two biggest in Seattle don't buy company suites or advertising in any of the sports teams as company policy.

That's fine, but he's just saying that the pond is bigger and has bigger fish. No one's asserting that Seattle can catch more fish or bigger fish, just that the likelihood, all things being equal, is that there is a larger chance of bigger fish and more fish. That's it. And it is a fact. Whether you want to go down the list to cross off some fish is up to you. And that's something that is important to bring up to the BOG. But even taking out the biggest ones, there are still more business opportunities in Seattle. Now, will a better fisherman be successful in the smaller pond? Damn right. But the bigger pond is still the bigger pond.

To reiterate and summarize my post above: the whole point of Vivek's involvement is to go beyond franchise location for revenue sources. That's what globalization means. He has redefined what "market" means. It's no longer who lives in a 2 hour radius, or what companies are within a two hour radius. Understanding this point is what separates the people who know this is game over and those who are still on the fence. This is Stern's wet dream. He eventually wants all franchises marketing themselves all over the globe, kind of like how top European soccer leagues do. Except when you factor in tech and especially the mobile generation, you don't even need to be sitting in front of a TV, which means you're not limited to "commercials" as we know them. The ads become user specific. It's a whole different world.

Microsoft and the S**ttle Sounders also aren't likely to renew their kit sponsorship deal next year. I am guessing that while Sounders view themselves as a player on par with LA and NY and wants to get PAID!, MS views their Xbox brand as helping to move Sounder merchandise in the core 18-35 male demographic. If so, I think MS has a point. LA Galaxy won the last two MLS Cups but I know lots of people who would never want to walk around with an Herbalife advertisement, but Xbox 360 is cool.

I think they would take the same stance sponsoring the NBA.

But in Sacramento there's only one fisherman in that pond. In Seattle, the fisherman is jostling for position with other fishermen, with better equipment and ... oh crap. I hate fish analogies. In Seattle, the Mariners and the Seahawks garner a lot of the corporate sponsorship. There is no proof that they will be as generous with their dollars with the resurrected Sonics, especially if the team is playing in Key Arena for a couple of years and doesn't instantly start winning games.

I feel like I'm not being heard here. I just blew everybody's mind by explaining how Vivek is going to redefine what the word "market" means to the NBA but nobody noticed. I will now stridently carry on as the unrecognized martyr that I am. Oh the agony.

Source tells The Bee's @TonyBizjak that Hansen/Ballmer contemplate increasing bid for #NBAKings by $25 million after Sac vows to match

I want to see how the NBA reacts to this especially after Stern said there will be no bidding war

Me too. It will be odd if the league continually "encourages" the kings group to raise their bid to match and then suddenly shuts the Hansen group off from doing the same. If that does happen (potential litigation aside-which wouldn't be our problem), I think that's a great sign that this is ours.
