I think thats great. There is a whole world out there beyond the 30 NBA cities and their 5 star hotels. The Euros whipped the USA butts for some 4-5 years and one of the greatest Kings, Peja, came to us from a Greek team.
For an NBA player to want to go to Greece or anywhere in the Euro leagues is absolutely fine by me. The excitement of visiting new cities, playing as the top dog on your team, seeing new cultures and making bigger bucks than in the USA. What more does a player want? Well, yeah, winning an NBA championship, which BTW, is no longer the "Best team in the World". Argentina, Greece and Lithuania proved that in the last few years..
And one Euro € is worth something like $1.57 US dollars and if it's tax free, as it is with Childress, such a deal! There is one possible down side to going to a Euro team. They play TEAM ball and basic fundamental basketball. A hot dogger may not last a few weeks.
Up to now its been the second tier players (2nd round draft choices, free agents, D-Leaguer's, etc) from the USA that have been going to the Euro leagues. If Childress elevates Olympiacos to the top of their league and final 4 in the Euro championships, you'll likely see other current NBA players, active bench players, going over as well.
I just hope this is not a "nyah, nyah, nyah" to his current team as that could backfire on him. Burning Bridges (or not) comes to mind. Anyway, good luck to him and I hope he takes advantage of the off-the-court opportunities everywhere.
