Chalmers and Battier

twslam07

All-Star
If Davis, Gilchrist, and Robinson are gone by the time we pick, I'm not so sure it would be in the best interest of the team to hold on to the pick. I know a lot of trade ideas have been thrown out there that include our pick, but I don't think this one has been mentioned.

3rd - 7th pick overall
Salmons

for

Chalmers
Battier

The positives:
  • Get rid of Salmons contract
  • Add a PG who isn't ball dominant, but can handle the ball if needed. Chalmers can also hit the open 3 at a great rate and play excellent defense. Good bargain at $4 mil a year.
  • Battier would bring defense, 3 point shooting, a role players mentality, and a strong veteran presence. Not to mention he is not undersized at the SF position. Good bargain at $3 mil a year.
The negatives:
  • The possibility of missing out on a great player in the draft that we regret for years to come.
  • Battier is aging and would only be a temporary fix.
So what do you guys think? Would you do this trade?

beno/7th for salmons/fredette now salmons/ 3rd-7th pick for chalmers/battier? wow smh

are you doubting the player picked between those numbers won't be better than either of the ones traded for?

No I would not. Not saying its a bad deal, because on paper it actually looks good. But this is the kind of deal that a team who is ready to take that next step and get into the playoffs (i.e. a team in the 9th or 10th spot in the conference, who was within a few games of the 8th seed). The Kings, unfortunately are not that team. We are not looking for veteran pieces to bring us the championship, not yet at least. We are looking for a young superstar to add to the roster...

If we are committed with Evans at SG and handling the ball a lot then Chalmers makes a boatload of sense at PG. He's a great defender, and a good shooter when needed to be. Not to mention he does see the floor pretty well although he has James and Wade that handle the ball a lot more than he does. I really do like Chalmers though, and think he could do pretty well on the Kings with Evans at SG.

Battier I am not that interested in though at this point in his career. So no I wouldn't do the trade...

I'm sure Battier has zero interest playing for a team thats not even that close to being in the playoffs. And i hate to say it, but part of me would rather have salmons over battier. I know it might sound crazy, but i like that salmons also has play making ability. battier is just a defend and hit 3's guy, and this late in his career he's not quite efficient enough, or he is just not getting the looks on such a loaded miami squad. either way i wouldnt mind chalmers but im not really THAT high on either guy

Let's call Battier and Salmons a virtual tie...

You're pretty much saying you want to trade a ~5th pick for Mario Chalmers. Let that sink in for a bit.

Indeed. A Battier of 3-4 years ago and Chalmers today would make a whole lot of sense. But Battier is pretty much living off his name value at this point and Chalmers, while a good fit for us, is not worth a top 7 pick
