Catch out... can we beat Indiana...

#1

Okay I hate to be mean spirited... But We sure could use a break. (No Pun intended) So Catch hurts her foot against Detroit. Expected out for 2 week.

Now I will be 100% honest. I thought we would get spanked by Indiana.

But with Catchings out, and some improvements here and there... Maybe.

Any Thoughts?

Catchings is one of the premier players in the WNBA. With her out, it changes the Fever's game. We have a chance. Then again, sometimes a whole team will step up and kick everyone else's derrier when their star player is hurt. I have hope though.

We're 0-3 in games where somebody was missing so and so we should have been relieved they didn't have to contend with. (0-4 if you toss in the Buescherless Silverstars.) Since the Fever started Monarchs Killer Sheri Sam instead of Catchings, I'm not quite ready to get excited.

Can't let up just because of one key injured player!

Catchings is an awesome player. With her out of action, it will greatly change the Indy Fever's strategy.

That said, both 6th and MBF are correct: the Monarchs cannot --- and must not --- take the rest of the Fever team lightly, by thinking they will have an easier time with Catch being sidelined. The Fever has a real good shot at winning the Eastern Conference this year. (Actually, I hope they do, so we won't have to see Evil Bill in the Finals again!)

I still haven't completely recovered from that sickening 4th Period meltdown and eventual double-overtime loss to the (post-Holdsclaw era) L.A. Sparks last month! The Monarchs were 8-3 before going into that game. We have since gone 4-5 since then. :(

So let's hope that our gals can get some good "hometown cooking" and beat L.A. next Tuesday and beat the Catchings-less Fever on Thursday morning (11:30 a.m. start time)!

Let's Go, Monarchs!!! :)

I never meant to imply that we should take the Fever Lightly. In fact the Opposite. My thought was, we should go after the next two games like someone stole our lunch money because a Catchings-less Fever is the best chance we have of beating them.

If there was ever a gut check for this team it is this week. At the end of this round of games we should know what we have to work with. The Sparks are no Push over and they are gonna come in hungry. Thre Fever would love nothing better than to take us out at Arco, and Minny is a wounded animal ready to pounce on anyone.

We need to approach this week with some urgency. Like the season depends on the outcome of this week. Personally I think we need to go 3-0 to salvage the season. If we go 1-2 or 0-3, I don't think we would emotionally recover. We may slip into the play-offs but I think it will be very telling.

No disrespect to the captains or the players on this team. But I have heard the words. The "We don't get respect mantra", how pissed off they were about not closing out game 5 of the finals, and how we need to do this, that, and the other.

I want to see the urgency on the court. And the delivering on the goods.

We will know by Sunday who this team wants to be.

It's kinda sad to read that people only think we can beat the Fever if Catchings is out...

If that's the case, what's going to happen come playoff time?

Well Let me pose this question to you. What have we done recently that makes you believe that we can beat the Fever?
With or without Catchings?
We are utterly beat up in the post, We haven't been able to defend for 4 quarters, and we can't hit a jump shot with any consistancy.

I am not trying to be unsupportive. But we have gotten so use to being Top Dog that we just assume no matter how poorly we are executing the game that we will just win. That we will just bounce back and turn it up a notch. And that will be enough.

The reality is... SASS is a better team than we are right now. We have not beaten PHO all year. LA has beaten us the last 2 times we have played. And if they are better than we are, then you can bet your sweet *** that Indiana is better than we are.
With or without Catchings.

My point is that this is an opportunity to get well, gain some confidence and put our team together in a meaningful way. I am not a pie in the sky star struck fan. I want my team to win. But They have no... I repeat NO margin for Error. They have to take care of the ball. They have to play smart. They have to hit shots. If they do that, they give the Defense a chance to carry the day. But Indy is as defensive minded as we are. And they are shooting the ball better. So we have to really want these next few games and give something more than we have.

We can win? Hell yeah...we can win even with Catchings out there. But not the team I have seen the last 5 games. We need to draw a line in the sand and play better.

And I think that is just being realistic.

Spoke breifly with Coach Boucek tonight at the MVP event.
Talked about how important this home stand is, & she mentioned how beat up the team is now. This is where eveyone else must step up.
Start by taking care of the ball, make some ''free-throws'' & please when you get the lead..close out these teams.

No Catchings...too bad for the Fever & one less player for the team to prepare for. I agree no team is a easy win. We have to fight, bring back that Chealse Newton ''D'' Get rowdy at Arco, get fired up Monarchs!

LETS GO PROTECT OUR HOUSE...It is crunch time!
