I've been listening via the livestream - albeit with some buffering delays - and think Dave's doing a great job.

I'm impressed by the comments so far and I think he did a great job with Gavin.

I honestly think the Maloofs and Petrie picked Reggie Theus as the young hungry guy with the love of the game AND the love of Sacramento. Gavin spoke several times about Reggie's ability to turn the NMSU squad around and it gives me real hope for the next couple of years of Kings basketball.

Nice job, Dave and...

GO KINGS!!!

Doesn't fill me with confidence at all. Getting college kids to do what you want and getting NBA players to do what you want is apples and oranges.

Gavin Maloof on KHTK about Theus hiring

Gavin Maloof was on KHTK with Carmichael Dave for a little over 10 minutes.

Some of the things Gavin said:

Gavin is happy and proud to have Reggie aboard.

What pushed Reggie over the top? Two years ago Theus came to see the Maloofs...Theus mentioned taking over the New Mexico State program...he took the time and effort to see the Maloofs and they appreciated his visit...Theus told Maloofs he would turn the New Mexico State team around and go to NCAA playoffs...Maloofs donated money to the New Mexico State program.

Petrie's involvement was 100 percent... Petrie is on board...Petrie loves Theus...Theus is competitive, has passion for Sacramento and its fans...he's a former King...repeated by saying Petrie is on board...the family is on board.

Talked about Theus's track record...6 wins to 25 wins in two years...Gavin was very impressed with New Mexico State turn around and how Theus met with them in Vegas two years ago.

Did the Kings need a coach before the draft? Gavin said it was not a necessity but it would have been nice...they wanted to take their time and find right person...Theus is a King...passionate about Sacramento...Theus talked to Petrie a lot...they wanted someone loyal to Sacramento, Petrie and the Kings organization.

Larry Brown was contacted by Kings. "It just didn't work out...wasn't the right fit." Gavin did not want to get into the things discussed with Brown.

Brown wasn't the right fit. Petrie and Maloof Family are 100 percent behind Theus's hiring. Gavin feels Theus can get the players on the same page. Theus spoke to Gavin today and was at a loss for words.

What can fans get excited about? They wanted a person who is determined and in it for the long haul...100 percent effort...players and fans will respect him..."we're rebuilding/retooling...how ever you want to say it."

As always, if anyone else heard please feel free to make any additions and/or corrections.

I think the indication is that we're going to go younger. And young NBA players are a lot more like college players than seasoned vets. It could work out very nicely. I'm staying hopeful and excited. There is potential here...

also give props to Peter Vescey who said this was going to happen. he's 2 for 2, now. I trust the guy.

If Reggie's charisma, media savvy, and love for THE SACRAMENTO KINGS can't help get a new ARCO arena nothing can.

Oh obviously. ;)

Unfortunately you could be mouthing the exact thought process of the Maloofs. Or at least part of it. Others being muting criticism and boosting interest temporarily via the show biz approach. In many ways this is our own Billy Donovan hire. Which had nothing to do wiht basketball when the Magic did it either.

I think that's the first time I've heard a Maloof use the "rebuilding" term.

Mark my words, Kings fans. This could be a lot of fun.

:)

they want to win, the maloofs would hate to go through a rebuilding phase. So the product we have on the court next season is going to have to convice me they've changed their ways.

btw, just for the record, i believe that the Monty Till' Midnight show >>>> Carmichael Dave show.

I think a lot went into the choice of Theus. The fact that he wanted desperately to be a head coach in the NBA "obviously" makes him different than Donovan. Besides, does that this mean that all those here who were incessantly gripping about the mere mention of Larry Brown's name will now bore us with more swipes at Theus before he even coaches his first game in Sacramento.

The mere fact Gavin uttered the "rebuilding" word is a huge change. Neither Joe nor Gavin have ever said that publicly before.

I don't generally listen to either so it doesn't matter to me. Tonight, I took the trouble to follow the audio stream of Dave's show because it was important to me. I think he did a great job; hence my compliment and this thread. He was able to pull together the people I think most fans wanted to hear from in a very short period of time. It's a lot harder to do that than most people realize.

Because obviously if Larry Brown was unsuitable, then Reggie must have been the logicial choice?

Since you are clearly going to be bored for some time now, maybe you should take this opportunity to logoff and go read up on basic logic.

Of course this isn't about logic is it? This is about a new breed of homer? The Reggie fan tolerating no naysayers? Talk about boring. Same breed, different target of affection.

Well i have been a loyal listener and contributor to the Carmichael Dave show and with out him and his show i would have never got the opportunity i did. So whether or not you like his topics he talk on( i don't like them all) or you hate them The Carmichael Dave Show 9pm-12am is the most interactive and fun show on Sports 1140 KHTK. would grant&mike ever allow a listener to come in and host their show i don't think so.

No more six year deals for mediocre veteran players like John Salmons, then?

5 years. :)

As for Reggie Theus, I was a little disappointed at first but I'm starting to get comfortable with the idea. I have no idea what kind of a coach he's going to be, but his connections with the Kings organization are at least comforting. Hopefully he'll stick around for awhile and restore some of the stability that's been missing the last couple seasons.

Hopefully not. I for one welcome Theus and wish him all the best luck. And I am glad to hear that the Maloofs even contacted Larry.

Now it is time for Geoff to really go to work.

Please Geoff, find a way to give Reggie some more youth and fire to work with.

Of course, the Kings organization is going to gush ad nauseum about Reggie - it's what they do when they make a decision. Public relations, get gullible fans pumped, sell some tickets. Reality comes later.
I don't believe a whiff of what is coming out of the front office and ownership. On paper the hire stinks, smacking of small-town bozoism. Nothing we can do about it, except hope there's some outs in Reggie's contract if it doesn't work out - and pray that it DOES workout. I'm very cautiously optimistic about this whole deal.

I agree with you VF. I always knew they would pick a diamond in the rough. I don't think they want to have a pro veteran coach at this point because they don't know what they will have in the future in terms of players. Theus is a players coach with a great personality and knows a lot about the game and our city. Makes sense. This is a choice that will either go bust or will come out ahead, and that can be said about a veteran coach as well.

but do we really need to get worse to get better?

Yes! Yes! Yes!

You can't build a second story on a house thats in need of being demolished. Thats what we have here.

Trusting anything Vescey has to say and favoring Monty over Daves show. Monty and Vescey are blowhards. Dave is..... a rare blowhard.(He has his moments).

Last night Dave was a blowhard. He was talking about wanting Larry Brown here. If you wanted the Kings to leave town hed be a great fit otherwise...... HELL NO!

I just noticed..... A "Cowerd the Howard" sighting!

I went to a brainwashing psychiatric center the other day, so when people mention this "last season" and "Muss" stuff, I have no idea what the hell anyone is talking about. All I know is that Adelman's contract was not renewed, we hired Theus, and we still have Bibby, Miller, Martin and Artest.

When did we get John Salmons... and who is this Justin Williams character?

That's very strange, Fresno King. How did you know about my dream? It was a dream, wasn't it? The whole Eric Whosits stuff? Just like when Bobby Ewing stepped out of the shower and Pam told him about her dream that effectively made a whole season's worth of "Dallas" just go away?

More like a nightmare, VF. It's very fuzzy now, however. I vaguely recall a short caucasian man, a footstool, and a lot of rolling of the eyes by the Arco faithful, but nothing more...
