My guess is there is some serious hard ball being played between our FO and Karl's people. He knows this'll be his last run. Yes, he wants to coach and could go many places, but he's gonna get the best damn deal he can. My guess is there is much more being negotiated than just salary, such as agreements on control/meddling, etc. And good for him. Maybe we need a strong willed coach with massive cred such as Karl to stand up to the FO. If they (and us) see Karl walk to the Magic... that would just be further humiliation, and reinforce their image as self important meddlers with inferior basketball knowledge. If Karl walks, it just puts more pressure on them to win, and when that inevitably won't happen, the implosion will be more complete. Of course, they could just agree to pay Karl and let him coach the damn team. There's a novel concept.

Considering Defcon 1 alert status has never been ordered in history of US Armed Forces that makes this one helluva monumental official Kings scream. Of five alert status (1-5) in most recent times 911 was merely Defcon 3. Cuban Missile Crisis over 50 years ago Defcon 2. If something is up it better break soon or this all out alert will simply go down as more silly Twitterdom nonsense in 140 characters or less. Should we all jump under a desk just in case

Something tells me CD doesn't go to Defcon 1 lightly. He would have used another analogy had something not been so drastic.
Perhaps it's replacing Ranadive as managing partner?? Have the other owners gotten fed up at the beating the brand has taken?
Is there a wholesale clearance of Ranadive, PDA, Mullin, Corbin?? With immediate hire of Karl included?
Defcon 1 is pretty heavy. CD, you've staked your reputation on a big claim at a major turning point in Kings history.
One of his tweet responses indicated it was not about ownership; another said it was not about Cousins. Prevailing opinion is that our angst over the head coach is nearly over.

I have a feeling Defcon 1 is going to be a bad thing, and I have a feeling that bad thing is Orlando negotiating with Karl. Kings fanbase would go batcrap nutz if that happens.

I don't think so. Remember, as Freplug said, Dave is first and foremost a Kings fan. He would not be making this kind of deal out of another heartbreak. It's not who he is or ever has been.
At this point if we DON'T get Karl, there's going to be a full blown rebellion from fans and quite frankly, there should be. We obviously don't know everything going on behind the scenes, but every indication that there's a lot of interest from Karl to come coach here. That puts the entire onus on the FO to man up, admit there mistakes, and get a deal with Karl done.
I don't even mind that they didn't go get Karl immediately after firing Malone. They truly thought that Corbin would coach this team to more wins and have us playing better. Not that I agree, but fine, stick to your guns and plan. But it's now time for them to correct that mistake and go get the top-tier coach who wants to come here.

If we change coaches this season, is there any way PDA isn't gone also? He staked his reputation, his years of experience, and his status as a "not idiot" on the Corbin for Malone swap. The moment Corbin is out before the end of the season, it's an admission that the season was tanked by that miscalculation.

Though if it does end up being Karl, PDA/Mullin/et al. all probably wind up being marginalized anyways. George is many things but one thing he isn't is timid. The first time the front office suggests he do something he doesn't like is going to be the last. If George Karl wants another PG or to banish Derrick Williams to the Double-D-League, it'll happen whether PDA and crew like it or not.
If there's anything Vivek values, it's name recognition (see all of his celebrity "friends", him glomping onto Mullin and Rodger Craig like a starved leach, and him constantly taking selfies with any powerful/famous person who happens to cross his path) and few names are bigger in the NBA 8for better or worse) than George Karl. If it comes down to having to chose between one of the winningest (regular season) coaches in NBA history who also happens to be in the hall of fame and employs a style close to the one you seem to be deadset on implimenting or some relative no-name whose main name recognition now comes from being the idiot who replaced the franchise's first good coach in a decade with a guy who seems to have difficulty figuring out what timeouts are, there's little doubt who Vivek would choose.
Then again, I never thought he'd get rid of Malone so what the hell do I know?

Defcon 1 is not simply a coach change.
Defcon 1 should only be used to describe the conflict and/or resolution between the FO and the players to be resolved.
Defcon 1 insinuates there is a war going on (the same war I've been talking about for 7 weeks) between the players and the FO.
If this solely results in a coaching change, and does not result in PDA being fired, or at the very least openly talking to the fanbase and EXPLAINING HIS ACTIONS (and lack of actions) over the past 7 weeks, then we (and our "representative media personalities") NEED to charge the front office and DEMAND explanations for what they have done to the franchise.
It's one thing to have to live through this incompetence - it's another for our media to be mostly silent and passive while it has been foisted on us.
The media HAVE to start stepping up and demanding answers from the front office.

If you read this, know Dave at all, then you can only be quite happy at this point. This is VERY good news. Just needed to happen about 25 games ago. Whatevs, I can get past it. IF Karl is hired soon. It would also help to know that Boogie was involved in the decision.
No, defcon ONE means nothing more than what Dave thought it meant. And, as HereWeBoogie stated above, Dave thought it meant stuff was about to come down.
Bottom line, having followed Dave all night on Twitter, there is a 95% chance of something big coming down, quite possibly before the All-Star break, and Dave has "tons" of hope that the Kings will eventually hire Karl.

Something big coming down and Kings eventually hiring Karl. I hope that "something big coming down" means that Mullin is given the marching orders as he is reportedly the one who did not want Karl all along.
I just cannot trust that guy. He is a cancer in the front office that needs to be removed before he buries this franchise more than he already has.

I would hope that Karl would make PDA's removal a condition of his hire. I have no problem with Karl taking the reigns of this organization. I find it hard to believe that any coach of any reputation would want PDA looking over their shoulder. PDA must eventually go.

PDA HAS GOT TO GO! How in the world can Vivek have confidence in him going forward? It defies all logic to think that Vivek can just change the coach and move swimmingly on without changing the entire FO. I really don't care about explanations or apologies at this point and neither should Vivek.
