I would like to be the charter member of the Carmelo Anthony for MVP Fan Club after watching that guy just destroy Portland on last night. Before the fourth quarter began, I was watching and just saying to myself, this guy is a different player. His body looks different, his mental approach looks different, his overall game looks stronger, better. Then the fourth quarter came:eek: and that just did it for me. Then i read the above article which just confirmed what I saw last night.

If Anthony plays throughout the season like he has played the first two games, the Denver Nuggets are going to be hard to ignore. Props to Carmelo for maturing into an NBA Superstar. He has always had superstar talent like LeBron, now he has the body, head and mentality to match.

melo is a damn good player but he wont be able to compete for mvp unless the nuggets win 60 games this season. the mvp award is lebron's to lose...

he is not in LeBron's class... I know the comparisons will be there because of the same year they were drafted and sharing rookie of the year, but Carmelo was, and always will be, a scorer. He has improved immensly, and has worked hard on other aspects of his game, but if he is the best player on your team you will be hard pressed to win a championship. he's vastly improved his offensive repetoire (sp?) and he is a player to be feared, but not on LeBron's level. Never will be.

Melo has a better shot of winning it this year than LeBron. How can you talk about if Melo is the best player on your team you'll be hard pressed to win a championship, and at the same time if LeBron is the best player on your team it's proven it's hard for him to win a championship. I would put Carmelo right up there with LeBron. Carmelo's more reliable when you need a bucket, he's more of a clutch player, LeBron might be the better rebounder and passer but I don't think LeBron's man to man defense is really that much better than Carmelo's. I really don't. Help defense yes, but man to man I don't see LeBron locking other guys down.

??? Lebron single handedly took his team up against a Spurs team that was still dominant. He is the ONLY reason the Cavs are successfull in the playoffs. He can dominate the court offensively and defensivelly. Carmello is the better PURE scorer. If I need to score, I'm giving it to Carmelo. However, you would be hard pressed to find any basketball fan (an impartial one) to pick Carmelo over LeBron if they had a pick of starting a franchise. It's ludicrous to even think about it. Again, not dissing carmelo, but in the grand scheme of things, LeBron is head and shoulders above him as a COMPLETE PLAYER. As a scorer, I take Carmelo. LeBron's athleticism and overall game make him a game changer. Melo has yet to carry his team anywhere. As KMart has proven, you can score in bunches but it doesn't mean anything. Yes, LeBron gets points taken off for playing in the East, but he gets his team through (His sidekicks up until last year were Boobie Gibson, an old and broken down Z, and Delonte West - good roleplayer, nothing more. how far would Melo go with that team?)

Please don't think I'm a homer, LeBron lover or whatever. I'm just a huge basketball fan who has watched both players extensivelly. Melo - Better scorer. LeBron - MUCH better complete player, altough Melo has closed that gap somewhat in the past 2 years.

I am not talking about who is the better player or who you would start a team with. I am basically talking about the start of this season. Anthony is playing at another level beyond his own game on par with LeBron, Kobe, D Wade. And if he continues at this pace, shoot the Nuggets just may win 60 games.

Game 1 vs Utah - 30 pts, 8 reb, 5 ast 11-22 FG WIN
Game 2 @ Port - 41 pts, 6 reb, 3 ast 11-21 FG WIN
Game 3 vs Mem - 42 pts, 7 reb, 5 ast 15-26 FG WIN

ah ok then good point. he has been playing out of his mind, and has gotten extremely efficient. if he keeps it up i don't see how he wouldn't win MPV as long as nuggets are decent and nobody puts up a crazy numbers season.

Hey, at their current pace they'll win 82 games!
