Indiana associate coach Mike Brown is in contract talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers for their vacant head coaching position, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith reported Friday night.

Brown, 35, has spent the last two years as Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle's top assistant.

The Cavs also have contacted John Calipari, but the Memphis Tigers coach has said he is "not a candidate" in the Cavaliers' search for a head coach.

Cleveland, which is also looking to bolster its front-office ranks, also reached out to Detroit Pistons coach Larry Brown, who has denied meeting with Cavs officials about seeking the team's presidency.

Cleveland finished 42-40 in the 2004-05 season, but lost the tiebreaker to the New Jersey Nets and missed the playoffs.

I found it interesting. I didnt even know Mike Brown was in the running for the Cavs job but I guess they think he can do the job. Ive never heared of him and I just thought they would really go after a big name coach for Lebron like Phil (even though he said he wasnt interested), Adelman, Larry (If his health is ok and still leaved Pistons).

i don't think brown is going anywhere. his health is quicly deteriorating, and i truly believe he has no more want to coach.

I like to see new coaches, too often they just recycle the old ones and move them around unless they quit because of personal/health reasons like Nelson.
