Probably a correction -- we don't need a "skilled" big next to Cousins so much as a dependable one. If Al Horford were availabel I'd say there's your ideal type guy. But obviously he's not and you have to take it down a notch. But the wingman to a major center would be a Charles Oakley (Ewing) or Udonis Haslem (Shaq) type, except that Cousins is never going to be a shotblocker which means it might be something more like a Larry Nance (Daugherty) or Dale/Antonio Davis (Smits) type -- a guy who can block shots, protect the middle, and take the other team's toughest offensive big man. Somehow get me a dependable night in night out 12 10 and 2 defensive minded guy there and I'd be ecstatic.
Here's the thing, if Landry leaves next year we could still have:
6'11" 280 lb Cousins
6'11" 250 lb Dalembert
6'11" 250 lb Thomspon
7'0" 240lb Whiteside
Right there as one of the biggest, best rebounding, and best shotblocking frontcourts in the league. Even if you don't find that perfect PF, if you go out and acquire a strong #3 option at SF (whihc we can afford to do) -- let's say 17ppg or so -- you've got your offense, and a rotation of bigs who control the glass and the middle, led by an emerging stud in Cousins, could be more than enough.
