Camby to Clip for a second rounder!

Using the salary-cap space earmarked for re-signing Brand before his free-agent departure to the Philadelphia 76ers, L.A. was able to absorb Camby's contract ($10 million for each of the next two seasons) without surrendering anything of consequence beyond Denver creating a trade exception worth $10.1 million that expires one year from Tuesday.

8 Mil this year 7.5 Mil next year

We would get utterly ruined.

But that's short term. A few years down the line after Camby is retired and Ron is in a room with white walls, the edge would definitely switch to us. ;)

Honestly I don't know. Hawes gets pretty aggressive when you make him mad. I think eventually Hawes should be called the Incredible Hulk. "You don't want to make me mad...you wouldn't like me when I'm mad."

Odom isn't as soft as he was made out to be by the media and fans in the finals. He was taking on some pretty tough defensive assignments. Odom's main problem from my view point is his offense just decides to disappear at times, then he comes out of nowhere for a 20 point game.

man seems like the clips are doing whatever it takes this offseason to make their team better. they needed a pg...they got 1 of the 2 best pg available this offseason. their team would have possibly been playoff bound if brand stayed. once he left they needed a pf...they got a former defensive player of the year who avg a double double and 3+ blocks. some will say davis and camby are old but still, their team looks solid on paper.

No one would ever accuse Davis of being old. He's certainly had a lot of mileage in this league, but come on, he's only 29ish--still somewhere around his peak. As for Camby...

I'm not up the expert on Camby or Kaman, but it seems that the Clips still have a hole at PF as both are tried-and-true centers. They're going to desperately need more scoring from Thornton, Mobley, and rookie Eric Gordon.

I do however, applaud this trade...yikes, Camby for a 2nd rounder?!? Way to go Clips, but I'd hate to be a Nuggets fan right now...

This gives the Clips a chance at the 8th seed, IMO, as I believe that Golden State and Denver are - as of now - out of the picture. GS is going to struggle without a true PG, and the Nuggets - who needed to add more defensive personnel, not lose it - appear to be going for the "Toro!" defensive strategy.

Camby can play PF, he's got a decent spot up J and he's a good passer. I don't know if he'll be able to keep up with 4's defensively though.

As a part-time Bobcats fan, I can only hope that this move takes the Clippers out of the running for Okafor.

I hope Okafor and Josh Smith both take the 1-year qualifying offer and become unrestricted next year, just in time for the contracts we get in the Artest and Miller trades to expire...

You know, as bad as this looks for the Nuggets (and trading an All-Star center for a second round pick is pretty much as bad as it gets) people seem to have forgotten that until last year's remarkable turnaround, Camby was a major injury risk every season. Over 6 seasons in Denver he played 29, 72, 66, 56, 70, and 79 games respectively. And before that 79 game season, 72 was his record for games played in a season. And he's only getting older. For a team that's been ravaged by injuries two years in a row, Camby may not be the smartest acquisition. Baron Davis has had his own injury problems as well.

That being said, he's sure worth a lot more than a second round pick. Just a slight disclaimer before we anoint the Clippers as a force in the west next year. I'd say there's a fair shot both guys get injured long enough that they miss the playoffs in a brutal western conference.

Playing the 4 instead of the 5 should help him. What he has in height he has always lacked in bulk.
