Ok, maybe the part about the peasants rejoicing wasn't true but the part about me winning a $20+$10 sit n go at my buddy's house is. I took home 160.00 total for first place. We had 9 players, ranging from weak to strong. We had 2 weak players (dead money), one fair player, 3 average players, 1 average-strong player (me), and 2 strong players. The three weakest players busted out first. I was sitting to the left of the consensus strongest player and he was picking on me all night. Calling my raises, raising me off the big blinds and when I had the button. He was the bully. I had a notable pot heads up with him early on that kinda of set the tone. Blinds were 10-20. I had about 1440 in chips (started at 1500). I was 5 off the button, there was 1 limper before me, the bully raised to 60, and I looked down to see my favorite hand, A-A. I re-raised to 120. Everyone folded around to the bully, who cold called me. Flop came 7-4-10 rainbow. He checked it to me and I quickly bet out another 120. He stared me down, and cold called me again. Turn was another 10. Again he checked it to me and again I bet out, this time 160. Again I was smooth-called by the bully. At this point I have 400 invested in the pot. River comes another 7. Just my luck, I have Aces and there are 2 pair ON THE BOARD. Again, he checks it to me, I bet out another 160 and he raises me 700! Grudgingly I folded the Aces, face up, for the table to see. He doesnt show his cards and takes a hefty pot.
That hand ate me up for about 2 hours. I even asked other players during one break if they thought he had it, they all thought he had K-10 or something. It still bothered me.
I picked up a few small pots and stole some blinds and made it back up to around 1600 in chips about 2 hours after the hand.
At this point in time, I picked up two great hands in a row and took serious advantage as well as built my stack up over 8000 in chips. The first hand I was dealt A-A. Twice in two and a half hours, not bad. I was determined not to let this one get away from me. I was gonna bet it even bigger this time and make sure to take down the pot. I was on the button, 6 players left, blinds were 50-100, and under the gun someone raises it to 200, the next player goes all-in with about 1450 in chips. It gets folded around to me and I'm completely stunned at this point, thinking I must be dreaming that the pot is already up to 1700 in chips and I'm holding A-A. I call the all-in bet and everyone else folds, including the original raiser. The smaller stack flips up Kings and I show the Aces, which pretty much brings the grown man across the table down from whatever high he was on when he was dealt the kings. Neither hand is improved and I take the over 3000 chip pot. Putting me around 3500 in chips.
I shook hands with the player I just busted out and sat back down for the next hand. I was dealt As-Ks. There was one limper, the bully, and I raised to 400. The blinds folded their hands and the bully called me. He had around 6500 in chips at this point. The flop came 5s-8c-Js. Bully bet 400 into me and I called after going into the tank for about 45 seconds. Turn card was 10s, giving me the nut flush. Bully checked, I bet 500, and he called. I am now dreading the last card dearly. He has got to have something to stay in this pot. I was really hoping the board didnt pair up. That would be the only situation I could lose this hand. River card comes 4h. I have the nuts. Now I just need to figure out how to milk more money out of the bully. Bully bets 500, I raise to 1000, I have 60% of my stack now in this pot. Bully re-raises me to 1600. I decide to put on my best acting job. I sat back with a glum look on my face, shook my head about 6 times, checked my cards about 3 times, sat there for about 3 minutes total before meekly stating "all-in." He called me before I could even get the "in" out and shows 6-7 giving him the straight. I smile and flip my cards up and say "Nuts." The table is totally excited at this point, everyone is cheering. The Bully slams his hand on the table and glares at me impatiently to count my chips.
I played the rest of the tournament solidly and walked away 130.00 richer. None of the hands after that point were memorable really. I went heads up with a tight player and I played heavily agressive, forcing him off a lot of pots. Eventually he tried to bluff with J-3 and I caught him, ending the mini-tourney.
