Breaking news from the forest!

Nope!

Another clue. This guy beat his wife to death, which largely ended his career.

By the way, it is still raining here. No flooding. Also, no fires.

That was easy...

Well done. Pretty good clue, huh? Scott Peterson, Spade Cooley, or that guy from Salt Lake City. Next one will be tougher.

Still raining. No cats, dogs, or frogs.

Don't cheat! Looks as though I may have to take some security measures.

Oh, by the way, NOT!

Willy Nelson and Waylon Jennings may have called Bob Wills the "King of Country Swing", but the mystery avatar IS NOT Bob Wills. I'll give you another clue. The mystery C&W guy was big in Bakersfield, CA.

And no, it's not Cal Worthington.
:D :D
Well, if I don't cheat, how am I ever going to figure it out? LOL!

And, thanks for making me nearly spit over the Cal Worthington reference!

Okay...I WAS going back to cheating to take my mind off the meaningless pre-season loss to the %$##@ Lakers EXCEPT for that dang penguin lover! :D

KK!

P.S. If you give me more clues on the next mystery avatar coming up, I'll continue my single handed campaign to get Kevin Martin named after you! :D

You live on the valley floor, right?

I'm in the middle of the Plumas National Forest, elevation 4,500 feet. We always have snow by October. Not a lot, and it doesn't stick on the ground very often, but we have snow...

Yup, valley floor where it's SUPPOSED to still be warm! :D
But I heard today (haven't verified it yet) that we're heading into another El NiƱo weather pattern. BRRRR!

CDF and the USFS both have issued reports to expect high amounts of precipitation this winter. What they haven't clarified is whether or not it will be rain or snow. The last time they issued those kinds of alerts, I ended up with over 5 feet of snow ... and I discovered how much I really, really hate shoveling it...

We have received 3.0 inches of rain in the past three days, most of it today. It is currently 49 degrees F, which is almost the high temperature for the day. That is pretty cool for mid-October around here. It got down to 39 degrees on about September 19, then went back up again. Bottom line, I think it will be a relatively cold winter.

Man, that ones a toughie. Here is my best guess, although I think i'm at least 30 years too far off:

You are wrong, and you are right, in that order.

This one is actually easier than Spade Cooley. This guy's band has a namesake with one of Sacramento's high schools.

By the way, we had 1.5 more inches of rain in Placerville last night. We have received about 686,000 gallons of water (2.1 acre-feet) at my place over the past four days with almost no runoff. That is roughly the equivalent of running a garden hose, full-blast, 24 hours per day, for 119 days. With the price of EID water, I'm glad that we won't be receiving a bill.

When you are unemployed, you have time to consider these things.

QD- Any inside information on when 50 may reopen? I'm supposed to be going to Tahoe on Saturday.

But the thing is Reina, it's kind of scary driving in the rain plus I am a chicken ****. On top of that, it's gonna take me more than 30mins to get there with rain traffic plus there are slow drivers like me. LOL =P

No inside information. However, if Placerville received 4.5 inches of rain in basically three days, Kyburz must have received twice that much. The stretch of Hwy 50 just west of Kyburz is surrounded by big landslides. I suspect they may have some serious erosion and slide problems this winter. You may have to take Hwy 80. By the way, they have a fair bit of snow up there now. Several inches of rainfall equates to several feet of snowfall. It is currently 49 degrees here at 2100 feet, so I suspect it is below freezing at Kyburz.

I was supposed to participate in another forest clean-up project with the local gun club on Friday, but I am almost certain that it will be deferred because of mud and snow.

As a fellow Elk Grovian, I know what you are talking about. :). Driving in the rain can be scary....espescially when you drive into a storm.

OK. This isn't working. I'll give you a hint on the school.

The high school was named after a guy who liked animals. And no, I am not talking about the Swedish version of liking animals.

not a really helpful hint....
John F. Kennedy was a President of the USA
Luther Burbank was the plant scientist that developed the naval orange.
James Marshall (River City HS) was just an old croney who found a gold nugget.

St Francis of Asissi was the Patron Saint of Animals

E.T.= Ernest Tubb. Very sly hint there! I can only take listening to him in small doses because his scratchy vocals wear thin on me pretty quickly.

Ernest Tubb's stage-band name was enlaid on the neck of his guitar. I painted over it. The Texas Troubadours.

Plus, the avatar title "Not an Extra-Terrestrial" was a reference to Ernest Tubb's nickname, which was "ET".

I thought that the "ET" and "troubadour" references were huge clues.

As far as his "scratchy" vocals, I'd have to call his voice "southern mush-mouthed". On one song he did with Hank Williams, Jr., ET sang "who's gonna cast the first stone". My five-year-old daughter, at the time, thought he was saying, "who's gonna catch the first dog". Who's Gonna Catch the First Dog" was a frequent song request while driving down the road with Dad.

Next avatar celebrity will be tough, but should be possible for knowledgable Country and Western fans, and of course determined Google searchers.

By the way, it got down to 37 degrees last night. Burrrh.

37 degrees? Why, shucks - that would be downright balmy. ;)

We got about three inches of snow out of the storm, but it has melted fairly quickly. The temperature last night got down to about 30 degrees, I believe. I tend to measure coldness by how aggressively my cats try to push me out of the bed so they can wallow in the warmth of the electric blanket. They weren't too pushy last night, so I don't think it was too cold...

:D
