Sources: Wells fires agent

Free agent and former Kings shooting guard Bonzi Wells still doesn't have a contract, but it appears he will have a new agent.

According to two agents, Wells has fired William Phillips, who could not broker a deal for his only NBA client.

Coming off a wondrous postseason, Wells was considered among the top free agents. But Wells and Phillips reportedly turned down a five-year, $36 million offer from the Kings. Phillips said he was negotiating with six teams, but no deal was consummated.

Wells has informed the Kings that he would like to return, a notion Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie said was impractical because payroll is approaching the luxury tax threshold. Also, they signed John Salmons to replace Wells.

Phillips did not return an e-mail seeking comment.

Good news for Bonzi... he may get a contract now although it's a little too late to get much for this season but at least now teams are much more likely to talk depending on who Bonzi hires. As for Philips I suspect his career as a sports agent is over.

Well the good news is that the odds of the Kings dealing with Bonzi probalby just doubled. The bad news is that they went from 1 in a million to 2 in a million.

Exactly.

The Kings have moved on, for better or worse.

Geoff Petrie didn't say that.

Salmons replaced Wells' open swingman spot in the rotation, not literally to replace Bonzi Wells. Kevin Martin is replacing Bonzi Wells (at least for now).

just let it go already. you've been complaining since day 1. salmon was whats best available out there when bonzi was let go. no doubt hes nowhere near bonzi talent but he will help the kings with his versatility. and no GP never said Salmon is going to provide what Bonzi provided. Salmon is here to replace him at the SG position and help the kings at other position.

First, I edited your post to remove the link to realGM, since it is quoting the article that was posted in the first post of THIS thread.

Second, Amick says the Kings hired Salmons to replace Wells. That's simply wrong, as Kings113 has already pointed out. Martin is moving into the starting 2-guard position. Salmons is filling payroll slot made available by the non-signing of Wells.

113, disagree Martin is not replacable. it's evident they think Salmons is there replacable thats why they got him in the first place and overpaying means they have huge expectations on him.

Joker - This is already being argued in a couple of other places. WHY continue it here?

Joker exactly how many games have you watched John Salmons play??? Don't lie to boost credibilty just simply think to youself how much you have seen him play.

Joker - Erm, what?

You've been arguing in the other thread so I'm sorry, but I don't understand your comment whatsoever.

Once again, the thread is being hijacked away from the original topic so you can pretend you don't know what's going on. It just gets a bit tiresome for those of us who do read most of the stuff before we add our comments.

martin isnt the same type of player bonzi but he does things bonzi arent good at; quickness, 3pt, FT. Salmon is here because of his versatility and he fill our needs at PG,SG, and SF---not because they think he can replace Bonzi's talent.

Alot of them i have League pass, and i can point out that when AI is out Salmon plays a little better but still lacks any kind of productivity IMHO, if he does not average around 12-14PPG its a disappointment considering how much we payed him.

Thats interesting. So you are telling me that you have league pass. which i do. And that given all the games on every night you choose to watch the 76ers? I watched about 3 last year just to see Webber a bit. In those 3 games Salmons was a better player than Jim Jackson, Bobby Jackson, Scot Pollard, Hedo Turkaglu, Keon Clark, and Kenny Thomas. All of which have made similar money in the past with the Kings. Also at least half of those players listed were coveted by Kings Fans here and abroad. John is no scrub by no means and we could very well average 12 points off the bench with us. you mentioned how well he did with AI out. Now think of this how many plays during all those 76er games you watched did the ball not go to Webber or AI and never go to anybody else in that possesion and if it did it was just left overs because they didn't have a shot or the clock was running down.

Wow, i think Bonzi finally realised that we offered him a good deal and due to his agent he didnt take it, it sucks too seeing as he was one of my favorite Kings, and i just bought his jersey literally days before i found out he probably wasnt going to stay.

Everyone has there moments, Tony Delk scored 52 once does not mean anything you have to play good ball consistently and with the amount of money we payed him HE better.

i expect him to average 7-8PPG but considering how much we payed him the Kings might have higher expectations but im gonna keep mine low until i see him play.

I don't think you can expect 12-14 points per game with the minutes he's going to get - in the low 20s per game, at the most. Also don't think PPG should just be taken into account with Salmons - assists, rebounds, steals, running the point, handling the ball, pressure defense, and man-to-man defense. I expect him to contribute effectively in those areas, or at least most of them, in the time he'll get. To sum it up, what Salmons should and I think will bring is versatility and athleticism on both ends of the floor off the bench.

Also have to take into account he'll have an increased and consistent role with the Kings (not meaning minutes), instead of just having that sometimes during the season with Philly. Which was much less than what his ultimate situation was with the Sixers.
