Don't Make Me Use The Bat

I almost started a thread on this last week, and now wish I had so I could claim the smartypants title. In any case, the rumblings are now out in the open.

So again, with the knowledge that Vlade has said the frontcourt was done, with Koufos being the guy who has played before for Joerger, and played well....any interest here?

1) Cuz does not like him. Might like him a lot better as a teammate.
2) part time player at this point. But statistically still one of the best defenders in the league (led the league in DRPM this year, 2nd last year, 5th the year before) and carries 15-17PERs every year.
3) on a very reasonable $11 million contract, heading into its last year.
4) Will eb 32 next year, and rep is injury prone/unreliable, and got hurt again in the Finals. But of course with Cuz and WCS we could cover when he was out, and he's played in a respectable number of games for 3 straight seasons now: 67-67-70.
5) Skilled and sneaky/saavy. Could this be Vlade's proxy he seemed to be looking for with Pau?

Koufos to give the Warriors the token size they need, on the longer reasonable deal for stability and reliability?

Nope.

Gasol could play with Cousins, at least offensively. Good jump shot, could play in the post or at the elbow. With Cuz it'd be shades of Vlade/CWebb. Defensively they'd struggle but two skilled and versatile offensive players.

Bogut is a poor for offensively. He can pass but has no game outside the paint. Defensively you'd have two anchors that aren't comfortable chasing guys on the perimeter.

So if he can't play alongside Boogie then you have a slightly better but also older, more expensive and more injury prone version of Koufos who most of us feel is expendable/trade bait because as a really solid 10-15 mpg backup center and spot starter he's a luxury for a team with bigger holes to fill.

Don't see the fit Brick, if we had a bad contract to exchange for an expiring maybe. But I'm not convinced KK won't yield some form of positive return.

I'm curious what teams would take Bogut for free if they could. Injury risk, be hard to get much asset wise I think for him.

he hurt his knee in the playoffs, don't know how he will recover. That said, talking bigs should not be a priority as of now.

Well first of all, losing Bogut will kneecap that team so I'm all for somebody trading for him! They think they can get by with nothing but shooters, good on them. I think it's a terrible idea, but they're division rivals so naturally I'm rooting them on in this endeavor wholeheartedly! The fit with us... yeah, I can see it. He erases a lot of mistakes on defense and he gets under the other team's skin. $11 million a year is not a big deal this season in the context of a $94 million salary cap. It's only 3 million more than Kosta Koufos is making. If you look at his numbers he looks overpaid but you're not really asking for stats from Bogut anyway. He's more of a situational off-the-bench enforcer than the centerpiece of your lineup at this point in his career.

There'd be concerns about offense if your frontcourt rotation is Cousins with Cauley-Stein, Bogut, Papagiannis, and Labissiere. That's a lot of defensive role-playing and not a lot of scoring punch or really offensive skills in general (at least until Labissiere is ready for an NBA role). But, if Cousins the 30ppg scorer is for real and the Rudy Gay who was 12th in the league in scoring a year ago comes back, I don't see how we'd ever be hurting for more scoring. You could have 6 guys in your rotation all averaging less than 10ppg next to them and still be fine. It's moving in the exact opposite direction of the overall league, but I'd do it.

Nope. If we wanted to keep a defensive-minded C who can't fit with Cousins, then we have the younger and better and more healthy one on the roster right now. Bogut is outstanding of course, probably a top 10 defensive player when he's on the floor, but he just isn't reliable anymore. And even when he is, he's at most a 25 MPG guy. That might even be pushing it.

But would we ever need more than 25mpg with Cousins and WCS already here?

That's pushing it for him quite a bit though at this point.

I just don't see the fit with Cousins either, both on and off the court. I'd have a hard time seeing them put their past beef aside.

I also don't see how using one of our few assets to go get ANOTHER big makes us better. Especially when the Big man FA losers would love Koufos.

Bogut is a great defender when healthy. IMO it is amazing he has stayed injury free as much as he has for GSW. He and Cousins occupy the same space on both ends of the floor so he would be an expensive backup for the Kings. Besides GSW ends up keeping the Big Aussie unless Durant decides to play in the City By The Bay.

Much, much, much more important areas to cover. Not sure why his name was brought up on a team featuring Cousins, Cauley-Stein, Koufos & Papagiannis...
