ESPN - Free agent center Jake Voskuhl signed a two-year, $4 million dollar contract with the Charlotte Bobcats on Thursday, his agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN.com.

Bartelstein said his client has a player option in the second year of the deal.

The Bobcats acquired Voskuhl in a trade with the Suns last summer. He played 51 games for the Bobcats last year, averaging 5.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 16 minutes per game.

The deal now gives the Bobcats 14 players under contract. However, the team has just $33 million in committed salary, about $6 million under the NBA minimum team salary.

The Bobcats look like they are clearly saving money for next season when they are in a position to be the only team far enough under the cap to offer a maximum deal. Players like Rashard Lewis, Mike Bibby, Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups could be available.

Well, there goes the 4th option for a defensive big for us after Wright/Cato/Olowokandi - now Pollard's the 4th option. Figured Voshkul would end up elsewhere though.

Whats so clear about that? Most of those guys will pick up their player options anyway, and the Bobcat's most pressing need is another big guy, not a PG, IMO.

I think, no matter what Stephen A Smith says about penny pinching, is that they're building the way an expansion team should. Accumulate draft picks to build with. Keep enough cap room to sign the young studs that develop to extensions, while having enough room on the side to bring in a veteran leader (a la Nash, Vlade).

And if they're just tanking for Oden, even better. Oden/Okafor/Morrison/Wallace/Felton? A solid team in a few years.

Yeah, Felton I'd say with his January-on run, has a bright future as a PG in this league. If he played like that all season, he and Paul would of been neck and neck for the ROY. Morrison/Wallace are their wings. Okafor/Brezec (probably) at the bigs. Could do a May/Okafor spot, but that's not clear yet.
