"Blic news"-Vlade's jersey will be retired

"Blic news,Serbian papers, announced today that we will see Vlade's jersey on the first game of the new season on the roof of the Arco Arena. They say that Maloof brothers finally decided to retire jersey with number 21 and Jery Raynolds said that Vlade is his best friend and that he don't know how to thank Vlade for 6 great years. This newspapers also said that everyone in Kings organisation was suprised that Vlade decided to retire and that is reason why the ceremony for Divac's "good bye" isn't prepared yet."

I am very glad because of this,Vlade deserved it for sure!

Looks like blic.com may have jumped the gun just a little...again. I think what they're doing is publishing something as fact that, while likely, is still not official.

Having said all that, I will be very happy when the official announcement from the Kings organization is made. Vlade's number deserves to be in the rafters at Arco and I think it will be a very moving ceremony when it does happen.

Gee Blic aren't exactly a great source. A gutter journalism at its best. I am sure Vlade's jersey will be retired and I would wait for a word from Knigs front office rather than Blic

On another topic than what is likely an overeager article, who is the player in your avatar?

If Vlade takes that coaching/scouting job with the Lakers, that will make the ceremony a little strange. Almost like celebrating an ex-girlfriend who has jilted you.

In my personal opinion there is absolutely no way the Kings should retire Vlade's number.

Why should they?
He was statistically usually around the 3rd or fourth best player on the team. SOme could argue he was the "glue" for the team while he was here. Fine, I'll concede the point.

Buy him flowers.

Being "the glue" is not enough to have a jersey retired. Not even close.

I'm not sure that is really true. Especially for a franchise as bereft of hope as this one was. I don't see how you can retire Vlade and not Webb, but if Webb is a retired jersey than Vlade is a logical companion. The guys who really turned the franchise around, may have even saved it in Sacramento, and as far as impact goes had far more more than many a transient 20pt scorer in the league. Think that jersey retirement should really be for impact, importance, association more than stats. If a guy defined you during an era when you had success, certainly has to be considered.

But I sincerely doubt its quite as soon as the Blic article suggests.

perhaps if the kings had won four titles while vlade was being the glue, or he had ended his career here by dying tragically to save a bus filled with orphans.

as it is, no way

Let's put it this way -- Brad Davis is retired in Dallas.

Yes, Davis' number is retired in Dallas.

Lets just hope the rest of the country doesn't start to use Dallas as a model.

For anything!!

they cant retire vlades number until webber retires.... because you cant do one without the other. how ridiculous would that look?

I agree, Vlade only played here for 5 or 6 years, played okay, he harmonized the team, but please don't retire the jersey.

I agree too. Vlade was a good player and teammate, but we should not retire his number.

if the future teams do not produce, i say they should retire that whole starting line up, and maybe bobby. Because i am quite sure that webber vlade and bibby will be put up there, if peja keeps playing the way he has been, he may be put up there and christie was a fan favorite but thats like the spurs retiring bruce bowen. So i don't know maybe 4 of the starting 5.

To add to what Brick said, this is also the franchise that had a parade because the team advanced to the next round in the playoffs......:p
