piksi
Hall of Famer
Kings celebrated unlikely victory and snapped their 3 game losing streak by upsetting the Hornets in the Big Easy. Kings improved to 5-8 for the season and 2-5 on the road which is at the moment 11th best in the west or what is more important 7th worst in the NBA. Kings have a chance to start a winning streak tomorrow night when they host a young Blazers team which is pretty weak on the road.

Piksi's pow(d)er rankings
This win as good as it was - hurt out progress towards the high draft pick immensely and we will have to make this one up somwhere else.
Playoff chances still the same at 0%
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a 24 hours after the worst game of the season - Kings delivered the best performance and the best win of the season proving once again that NBA is predictably unpredictable. It happened despite being shorthanded making it even more impressive. Surely, Hornets are struggling and have no resemblance to the team that played great last season (which we also beat) but that is their problem.

This win can be a significant moral boost if it is utilized properly. If we look it from the rebuilding perspective we can clearly say that kids played plenty and competed for 48 minutes and we got rewarded. In addition to that we showed potential and should be able to build on it. If we start thinking playoffs - we have a problem because this team can't make it and the kids won't be able to match expectations.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
To make a playoffs You have to be able to beat the direct opponents while both teams are playing their best. And You have to do it night after night. We are nowhere near that. Hornets didn't play nowhere near their best because if they did - we clearly wouldn't have shot 55% from the field.Unfortunately for us the increasing number of quality wins will decrease our playoff chances because there are still wore teams in the NBA and we will beat plenty of those at home at least.

Nice game by Donte Green. It sure was fun watching it last night. If that is a preview of things to come - it will be great. There is one potential problem - the minutes or better said - lack there of. Once Kevin and Cisco are back - minutes available will go towards zero which is not good at all. Planing and strategy are vital part of the NBA. If we like the Green and believe that he can be an important piece - why was Cisco extended ? A Young player with potential needs minutes, guidance and patience do develop. If one of the three is absent - nothing will happen.

Bobby Jackson provided us with some dejavu's last night. Bobby is old and doesn't fit in the future plans but again - I don't really care. For couple minutes last night Bobby reminded me why I admire him as a player. He dominated the game at its crucial moment against the best PG in the world on both ends of the floor. Just like he used to do a while ago. I recall many games but couple stand out. The PO game in Dallas when everything seamed to be over and Doug came back from the dead and Bobby turned it up and we came back from the dead, went to the overtime and the rest was history. Second game was the one in San Antonio during the regular season where he and Jim Jackson beat the Spurs pretty much by themselves.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings finally found another team in Hornets who decided to skip defending resulting in both teams shooting over 50%. Statistically both teams were pretty even except Kings hit their threes and Hornets didn't. Our performance in the 2nd half was phenomenal and when it mattered the most Bobby made several key shots and Brad made one. Hornets were definitely in a disadvantage tonight missing Mikki's presence and Douby's clutch shooting down the stretch.

AWARD TIME
TDM went to Deven Brown who had had the privilege of this award before in the Spurs uniform. Still, it wasn't enough.
LW-VC went to Pedja who reminded us last night at his worst moments. Finally it worked in our favor for a change.
I am still going to give JHA award despite the win to Brad and Beno who combined for 10 turnovers resulting in me using profanities towards the TV screen.
WTF moment of the game - I was outraged that coach Scott failed to call the last timeout and draw a 10 pt play to win the game at the buzzer. His play book must really suck.

Repetition is a key in professional sports. In this case I am wondering whether we will be able to repeat this performance against the Blazers who aren't good on the road. we have to be mentally sharp because if we go with an attitude of complacency - we will pay for it. We will have to work hard on the boards and the biggest problem is the fact that Blazers have more TDM potential than any other team in the NBA
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin - get well soon
Brad - keep ir simple
Beno - take care of the ball
Salmons - hopefully someone is watching him
Mikki - excellent game - keep it up
Hawes, Thompson and Green - need to keep getting their minutes
Bobby - clutch
rest - mateen
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Blazers have a bright future especially next season when they will be under cap with all this talent. We will get a chance to se Oden for the first time. Joel is also visiting his favorite crime scene. Another very interesting player is Rudy Fernandez. I wish we had him. This makes a choice for the TDM award almost impossible. I will go with Oden this time. Kings have a chance but I am afraid that they won't be able to mentally repeat the performance from New Orleans. Will be a good game anyways.
