Blazers fired the head coach!

well that was a long time coming....

Mo Cheeks best bet was prolly to stay in Philly when he was an assistant coach under Larry Brown...he might of been better off...he didn't stand a chance with the group of kids they have in Portland

I am happy for Mo Cheeks. He's a good guy and a good coach. It really sucks his players disrespect him.

Hope you find a good team to coach for in the future, Mo! :) I know you will.

Um...what is the point at this point in the season?
It's Portland, whats the point of anything they do?

I'm happy for Mo Cheeks, hope he got a big severance check. I don't think he'll be out of work too long...

My mother got fired from her job recently. I was very happy when that happened. She quickly got a better, higher paying, easier job. Her first job was holding her back. It was good for the experence, and for the resume building, but it was time to move on.

I apply this same logic to Mr Cheeks, if he is not completely burned out by the initial experence.

Mo Cheeks is a class act, anyone remember the time he helped that girl sing the national anthem?

That seems to be his legacy, oh and he was an awesome player too, not to mention a 500+ coach... lol

Like Bob Knight with the chair... its Mo with the Anthem.

oh yes vividly....everytime i see it brings a tear to my eye....Mike Fratello said yesterday on PTI that that has to be among the greatest moments in NBA history...and me being the sap that i am would have to agree...he'll always be remembered for that...but Mo Cheeks will coach again....he's definetly one of the nicest guys around...and like i said already he didn't stand a chance with those kids in Portland they obvioulsy had no respect for the guy

I'm so happy for Mo, he is a class act.. i still have in mind the time when he helped that girl sing the anthem...so nice of him. He got his check and now he doesn't have to deal with this bunch of jailblazers anymore...

there is no way mo doesnt get a coaching position somewhere in the nba next season. this, imo, is good for him. he'll finally have a chance to coach a real TEAM....i hope. that is, of course, unless he gets hired to coach the kobes or the t-pups. ;)

The official line from Portland is that Mo wanted to try to continue to make the playoffs but Management wanted to see what their youngsters could do and that Mo wouldn't be back next year anyway so now was as good a time as ever to let him go. His staff (all of whom have coaching experience) is retained but only through the end of this year and the new coach will be the director of player personnel who does have some coaching experience as well plus a contract extending beyond this year. Big shakeup in the city of the Roses. No doubt the buzzards will be circling this franchise until they've picked it clean. Stoudimire, Shareef, Nick just some of the guys on the way out.
