Blake Griffin - A Bust Waiting to Happen

I'm completely agreeing with you in my previous statement. I was explaining that just because a guy is explosive (as griffin is, or maxiell) doesnt mean he has a quick first step and can go around guys (like parker, ellis, etc.). They are two different abilites. I also dont think he has the offensive skills to do so, so we havent seen if he actually has quickness in his first step consistently, but either way I am definitely in agreement with you, and that was the point i was trying to convey.
Sorry about that. I'll have to do a better job reading next time.

Please explain what you're talking about. I've seen guys bigger and taller than Griffin guard him, yet Griffin can't dribble past them. He obviously can dribble the ball; that's not a problem. But he doesn't have the quick step to get by his man. If he's so explosive and/or quick then why can't he take a center outside, go to the hole, and slam it? All this talk is just that unless you actually see it on the court, and I haven't seen it. I saw Utah guard him with a center. Griffin had no impact, couldn't get past him. I saw Texas guard him by a big guy. Same effect.

How many power forwards have a great first step to begin with? I don't remember Chris Webber having an awesome first step. Guys like Malone, Duncan, Boozer didn't blow by people with their quickness. There are a few "freaks" like Charles Barkeley and Kevin Garnett who did blow by people, but Barkeley was only 6'5" and Garnett is just an absolute athletic freak of nature. It would seem that footwork is more important than foot speed in a post player who usually had his back to the basket anyway. Of course, you can't be all slow and uncoordinated like a robot either. It's a balance.

Did we forget that Blake is only 19!

If he's 6'9, he can grow another inch ..

Theres nothing wrong with a Thompson, Hawes, Griffin Big Man rotation next year.

Maybe after next season you can trade one of them, it will be a better draft AND you'll have a better idea of were this team is going and who is a better fit.

i agree ive thought about this too and i say that if we got the first pick that we trade down and pick up a nice young player like maybe trade the pick to OKC for their pick and jeff green cause im sure that they would like to have griffin at the 4 for them
thats pretty solid actually, i like it

The dribble drive, dunk doesn't happen in games much. Happens even less with big men, and even less at the college level. It's not the best judge of overall talent anyhow. But if you haven't seen Blake do it, look again.

didnt know this....

Griffin suffered a sprained Medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee, five minutes into the Sooners game against the Kansas Jayhawks, January 14, 2008. Griffin did not return to the game and the Sooners would go on to lose, 85-55.[12] He would also miss the following game, a 63-61 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on January 19.[7]
Less than two months after injuring his left knee, he injured his right knee in a home victory (64-37) against Texas A&M. The injury this time was torn cartilage, and he had arthroscopic surgery, March 2, 2008. He missed the following game, a March 5 victory of in-state rival Oklahoma State, 68-56, at Stillwater.[13] But was back on the court a week after the injury (March 8) with 14 points and 8 rebounds in 28 minutes versus the Missouri Tigers, a 75-66 win for the Sooners on their home floor.[7]

Nice dunks - all against inferior competition. Until I see him taking advantage of bigger guys who are above average college players, I remain skeptical.
