Chauncey Billups officially opted out of his contract Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent as of July 1.

Chauncey's first intention is to come back to Detroit, and we'll continute to explore that as an option, but if we're unable to make a deal with the Pistons my obligation is to look at other possibilities that will provide long-term security for Chauncey and his family," agent Andy Miller told ESPN.com.
Billups was due to make $6,819,000 next season in the final year of his contract, which had an early termination option.
Pistons president Joe Dumars has consistently said he is confident the Pistons will be able to re-sign Billups, whose negotiating leverage will be impacted by the small number of teams with significant salary cap space.
Milwaukee and Memphis are two teams with cap space and a need for a point guard, but neither team is expected to have enough space to make a better offer than the one Billups will get from Detroit.

no surprise here i was wondering when he was going to opt out. The question is does he want to come back to Detroit after how the past couple of season have ended.

Um... if I'm Detroit right now I am wondering if I want Billiups back with long paper or if I can get a better deal and save some room for possible upgrades. This team is now OLD and they need youth and firepower.

Not a surprise, but he's not worth a max contract, however, which Dumars should not give just to keep him.

My bet is still Orlando. They have the cap space, desperately need a point guard, and unlike Milwaukee or Memphis, it's an attractive place to play. Unless the Magic go after someone like Vince Carter.

they have a chance to draft a nice mid round point guard like jarvis crittenton and acie law. I wouldn't be so quick to sign chauncey back up if they could get one of them.

Totally agree. Pistons will be trimming the old, dead wood this off-season. With Billups they couldn't even beat Cleveland.

The magic are pretty high on Lewis at this moment and he should be their main target. Billups will likely stay in Detorit or go to the Bucks in my opinion.
