You can't blame people for being skeptical. There's been no strong rumours etc, so it's hard to just believe someone especially when it is their first posts on a forum.

Personally, I will reserve judgement, but I'm not expecting something to go down. However, if a trade were to go down, I find it almost impossible to see them giving up Marvin Williams, let alone giving up Horford or Smith. Bibby couldn't land one of those guys. They have star potential. Even if they were unhappy, they'd fetch a better deal than Mike Bibby.

We shall see, mattycam, and I'll admit I'm wrong if I am. But as of now, I'll go with my gut feeling that this isn't true.

While I agree with you, who would have thought that Kwame Brown/JC and a couple near 2nd round picks would land Pau Gasol who's even more proven and accomplished than any of the Hawks youngsters.

Whats the deal?

Just Mike for Lue?
No. It couldn't possibly be that. Contracts etc., another player would have to be included, and unless it's Sheldon Williams, I'd be expecting a pick. We're not going to be getting back Horford, M. Williams or Smith, so don't be getting your hopes up (not directed at Greg).

BTW, I forgot to mention, if a deal goes down that is Mike for Lue/filler/pick then I am down for that. Picks are exactly what we need, and Atl should have a lottery pick. Two lottery picks = good chance at having a great draft. It also leaves the possibility of trading up into the top 3.

You're right that nobody could have predicted that trade. But getting a star for Mike Bibby is a whole lot different than getting a star for a potential star (Critt), an expiring and two first rounders. Just my opinion.

ATL's pick THIS year goes to PHX in the JJ trade

somebody "trade checker" this thing... Shelden Williams, Lue, Salim Stoudamire for Bibby? Not even close salary-wise is it?
Here are some possibilities:

Bibby for Lue, Anthony Johnson, Shelden Williams and Lorenzen Wright (probably also a 2010 1st from Atlanta)

Bibby for Lue, Anthony Johnson, Shelden Williams and Childress (no pick)

Bibby/Thomas for Lue, Anthony Johnson, Shelden Williams, Zaza Pachulia, Lorenzen Wright, Salim Stoudamire (would prob. require waiving some players)

it is true Bibby did get traded to the hawks for tyrone lou for sure and not sure who else...just got off the phone with my brother who knows mike and him and his family are leaving today..press confrence at 4 et..espn.
That alleged news conf would be exactly 1.5 hrs from now. It would likely be Breaking News at ESPN.com by now and it's not...

Why not Marvin Williams/Filler for Bibby? That could have some merit too IMO. And it would show GP not getting DUPED hard core by the HAWKS either.

But there has been... Bibby to Atl for Stoudamire, Williams and fillers has been picking up steam as a rumor.
I wouldn't call it a strong rumour. None of the big sites picked it up (ESPN etc). Tons of rumours like these fly around, doesn't make it likely. Not saying it won't happen, but I've seen nothing to suggest I should be optimistic.

Okay, here's what I know...

Something might be happening. Our new guy COULD have a scoop no one else has reported yet. If he's blowing smoke we'll know soon enough. If he's not, we have - once again - beaten the other boards and the major media.

:p

I don't think that's going to happen. Maybe one good young player like Childress, but I doubt it would be Marvin Williams or Josh Smith. Possible, but I kind of doubt the Hawks would break up their core to get Bibby.

mattycam - Don't worry about the skepticism. If you're yanking our chains, however, we'll all know soon enough.

Personally I know there's something in the wind. I just haven't heard what it is yet - and people can't say they don't trust me because I haven't been here long enough.

;)

hey guys I'm not offended in anyway...honestly...I would be saying the same thing if I did not hear it myself...

Now that VF has posted, you've gained x100 credibility. No one will be down if you're not right, but VF never, and I mean never (:p), says anything about a trade unless she's heard there's a possibility.

VF, did you hear anything about any players involved?! I know that even if you do know, you won't say :p:D

Did I say "picking up steam"? Should have I have said there is a "steaming pile" rumor instead? lol

This is consistent enough, current enough, and original enough to be credible in my opinion. Bibby to Hawks for a steaming pile was not on the radar a couple days ago. Now it is a relatively "steaming" rumor in my opinion.

We'll see....

option "C" would be a winner for Geoff.

Marty Mac: deal done.

The Kings have reached an agreement in principle to send veteran guard Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and forwards Lorenzen Wright and Sheldon Williams, sources told The Bee on Saturday.

Also conference call (between Kings/Hawks and league) at 1. MATTYCAM YOU DA MAN

Teams can't trade future picks in consecutive years, so the earliest 1st Rounder we could get is 2010.
that's not exactly true. They cannot trade "future draft picks" in consecutive years BEFORE the fact. Once the draft has been held, however, they can trade their next one. They couldn't have traded 2008 and 2009 before 2008 but they can trade each of them before the respective draft.

Hope that makes sense.

At first glance, unless there's some sort of pick also involved, this looks like a disappointing deal, just Bibby for straight expirings. UNLESS there's a plan in place to do a separate deal that gets us under the cap so we can make a run at a good free agent. Or maybe Petrie's high on Shelden Williams (can't really see it).

Without another deal or a pick this is just a salary dump and a not terribly inspiring one at that. But if this is the best deal we could get it's the best deal we could get.

One reminder: It's not done until the league approves it. Ask Jason Kidd and the Nets about things that can keep "done deals" from being done.
