BEST memory...

Since it is officially the end of a Kings era (not to mention the first successful era in Sacramento sports history) I thought it would be fitting to share our fondest memories from the lockout season where J-Will, Vlade, and Webb came aboard to the recent trade of Peja. It will be good closure and a great trip down memory lane.

Gosh so many for me, but mine would have to be... the Mike Bibby shot during game 5 of the Western Conference finals that gave us a 3-2 lead over the Lakers....

A close second... during the playoffs when Webber rocked John Stockton during the beginning of a game in Utah and laid him out in the middle of the key to set the tone. :D

Well, every game against Lakers was something special.Of course Bibby's last shot in game 5,then Peja's 3-pointer against Timberwoolfs for the overtime, and maybe the strongest one is just picture of that team(J-Will,Vlade,C-Webb,Peja and Doug) on the court and their love for each other. That was something awesome!

P.S.And I was watching those guys at 3-4 am every night. That feeling when you get up so early to watch those guys,I can't describe that!

It's a little disheartening for me to think that a lot of people look upon a fight as their fondest memory.

For me, it had to be the moment when Doug Christie, injured and in the locker room, watched Peja come into the locker room, also injured. Doug had them put his shoe back on and went out and finished the game, playing his heart out and getting us a win.

A close second is when Bobby Jackson's mom died and the whole team took their day off, traveled some distance by plane and then bus, and stood by Bobby's side as he lay his mom to rest.

To me it's more about true competitive spirit and heart than about an incident that Doug wished had never happened.

My first pick easily = Bibby's shot in game 5. Most exciting thing I've ever seen.

My second pick - Doug Christie's 3 pointer to win the Sun's series, the first series we won. It was a thrill.

Yeah, I remember the lockout season. I remember in January '99 when the season was resumed and they started playing inspired, exciting ball. I remember the 3 game back to back to backs that many teams had to play in that short season. I remember all the bandwagon and newbie Kingsfans coming on board then. Didn't complain much about it because it was good for the Kings and the NBA especially following the lockout.

If you want to think of Peja leaving as the end of that era then go ahead. Actually the end of that era was when C Webb was traded last year.

Stay positive. Maybe Artest coming here will be the beginning of another great era for the Kings. If not? Then I don't really think they risked much. This season was already crap and Peja was playing injured and horrible and was sure to leave at the end of the season anyway. I would like to see Artest turn his career around in Sacramento, much like Webber did.

Best of luck to Ron Artest and the Kings. He starts with a clean slate tonight. The past is the past. If he pulls something in a Kings uniform then we will worry about it then.

are You sure - it was Christie ?

because I know it was Pedja

As You can see DC did not make a 3

if you are ever on trial, don't have me testify on your behalf!

I recall some big game where Doug hit a late long ball from the top of the key to put it away. I could have sworn it was the Suns but I guess not.

Now I will have to start researching to figure out what I'm talking about :-)

My favorite memories come against the Mavericks,

1. Doug Christie going back into the game versus the Mavericks after Peja injured his ankle. Christie proceeds to inject energy into the game ( a nice two handed dunk off of a sprained ankle comes to mind)

2 Next year, Bobby Jackson's bankshot 3 over Dirk Nowitski in the waning seconds of the 4th quarter. I forget whether it tied the game or if it gave us the go ahead bucket, but I remember what I vocalized...

no... Nooo... NOOOOOO!!! ::Ball bounces into the net::

YEEEEESSS!!!

Honestly Wednesday when i checked the Kings news on my cell phone and saw that we had finally got rid of Peja and got Artest. 2 hours later was my worst moment when they said it was off but in the end the trade of Peja for Artest is my best memory so far.

Game 5 by far is my best moment as a sports fan, let alone a Kings fan. One of my most thrilling moments ever in fact.I ran out of Marilyns onto K St. with tears in my eyes...and I wasnt the only one. Too bad it was only game 5.

You obviously don't remember the Sacramento Surge, winners of one of the few legitimate "World" titles in professional sports history :D

Since I lived in SoCal during most of this time I suspect Game 5 was the greatest moment, the trash talking that went on between Lakers fans and Kings fans/Laker haters was fantastic. Unfortunately it was also the last laugh. In an alternate universe where Samaki Walker's late 3 never counted that clinched the series :)

Other than that, I would say the first playoff run with the lockout team with all the hope it promised for the future. Even when they lost you knew great things were ahead.

Indeed! The Surge with David Archer that won the World Bowl was pretty cool(which by the way, is the only American team ever to win, and ever WILL win that game) Probably some of my fav. Sacto sports moments were boxing ones...Tony Lopez and Bobby Chacon being the contributers of those(Loreto Garza, too).

Yes! I developed a huge passion for boxing in my early teens, Tony was a huge part of that as well as an early icon of hometown pride the first time I left Sacramento.

I guess if anything it just goes to show how great this past Kings era (which for me ended when Vlade left) was since it has relegated a number of fine Sacramento memories to second string status.

I miss those great playoff series. First it was those crazy battles with the Jazz when our team was new. I remember Vlade going 1 on 1 in the waining minutes of those games. Posting up and taking his defender to school each time down the court. Then it was the Lakers who tore us a new one. Then we finally got rolling and had some crazy series with the Mavericks. Then back to those famous series with the Lakers. All were incredibly exciting to watch. Win or lose, you got your moneys worth watching those teams battle it out.

I dunno why but the most memorable moment for me for the Kings is when Bibby hit that 20-foot shot in Indiana 2 years ago fading to his left with 1.6 seconds left to win it. They had been struggling with Webber returning, lost the last 2 games previously (both ont he road) and were down 17 in that game, and came all the way back to win it on Bibby's heroics. I will admit though, if i had been in avid Kigns fan in 2002, bibby's shot in game 5 would probably top that.

Another good memory was from the 2nd round of the playoffs 2004 when the Kings came back from like 15 or 16 points down in the fourth quarter against Minnesota (right after Minnesota had done the same damn thing to them in Minnesota game before) through Peja's clutch, yes I said clutch, fourth quarter 3's. That game, and the game right before the all-start break 2004 where Peja won it against Detroit at the buzzer are the only 2 times I've seen Peja hit shots in the clutch.

Hey! Wheres the love for the Pig Bowl?;)

Yeah, I was going to put that game of the Minnesota series too! It was Game 3 and it was the first Kings playoff game I was ever able to go to. And we were down I believe 13 with 2 minutes left and Peja hit a bunch of 3's and that was the only time I can vividly remember him taking over a game. Unfortunetely, we lost in OT, but man it was one of the most exciting games I have ever been to by far. So many fans left and I bet they wanted to shoot themselves when they were in their cars leaving, listening to Gary Gerould on the radio saying, "Wait a minutes, it's not over!" :D

THe look on Peja's face when he hit those threes is what has always made me want to keep beleiving in him. At that moment, he had heart.

I think you're right. In all the commotion of wheather Artest is coming or not, what I (and many others here) forgot is that like somebody said, this Pedja and Pedja of 2 years ago are two different people.

So many memories.....just the closeness and comraderie that the team had is so rare to find in team sports. Vlade, Chris, Bobby, Pollard, Hedo, Peja, J-Will, Doug, even Jon Barry. They are all so different individually yet they put all of it aside and were one as a team. I loved the "bench mob" and the way the team celebrated together after the 1st playoff series win against Phoenix, I will never forget Pollard's Harey Carey impression, it was hilarious.

yeah, I remember that game very vividly. I was with my roomie at a McGees Grill, everyone left when we went down by 13...but we wanted to stay, for some reason...definetely glad we did, even though we lost.:( That was the only game I can really remember that Peja didnt vanish in a 4th qtr. There was that game in Toronto a few years back where he made the 'Shhhhhh' symbol at the Toronto crowd late in the game after he was hitting everything and the basket probably looked like a swimming pool...that was cool.

Call me crazy, but it looks as tho the ERA isn't quite over. There are always ups and downs, its basically how the team recovers from them which will determine the outcome. Honestly as a fan, this is the most I've been excited for quite some time.
