Best games at Arco...

Last night Arco was amazing. Makes me realize the reason that you can never count this team out of a playoff series, the Arco crowd is just too good. It is interesting that Arco seems to perform its best when the team's back is against the wall and momentum is truly not in our favor. That is what you want in a home crowd. Any arena can be jacked when their team is in control of a game or series, but what is so special about Arco is that it is loud in good times and bad, and really gives the team energy.

I saw the beginning of the Philly game last night, and the first few minutes of the Memphis game before I headed to Arco, and the difference was noticeable. The Philly fans were quiet early until the team got rolling (almost like they didn't believe they could win the series until Philly had the game in hand). Memphis came out with incredible fan energy, but once they fell behind the crowd went dead and there was no crowd energy. You would never see either one of those at Arco. Just another reason why Kings fans are the best in the NBA.

That begs the question, what is the best crowd atmosphere you have experienced at Arco (playoff or regular season). I have only had the pleasure of about 5 regular season games a year, and about 8-10 playoff games, so here is what I say...

1) Game 5 vs. Lakers WCF- AMAZING. You would think the crowd would be flat after Robert F****** Horry, but the crowd came out with just tremendous energy. The place was rolling all night long, and the loudest moment I can ever remember at Arco was the pure orgasmic scream when Bibby hit the game winner.

2) Game 3 vs. Seattle, 1996- Yeah, we lost, but the standing ovation to greet the players, and the incredible noise all game long were something special.

3) Last night- Like I said, my prespective is a little skewed because I haven't been to every game, but I didn't know what to expect from the crowd. Correct me if I am wrong, but the last time we came home down 0-2 was the year the Lakers swept us. The crowd then didn't have a memorable game 3, and it is always tough to know if everyone has given up down 0-2, or if they still believe. Last night led me to think everyone still beleives.

4) Game 7 vs. Lakers WCF- It makes the list because of the magnitude of the game- the biggest ever at ARCO- but to be honest, the crowd, liek the team, seemed more nervous and apprehnsive rather than truly ear-splittingly loud.

Otehr games... opinions....

First of all... Welcome to the Board!

But If I were to rank the best Kings games at Arco... I would rank some regular season games higher than last nights game. I just didnt feel we did enough right and good enough to have it be such a good game. We were lucky they couldnt mount another run on us like they did before half. Its up there due to how well our offense was going (at times) and how the crowd was always lively and helping us but It just didnt have that "Wow" for me.

I was there for that one. What a heartbreaker. Excellent description, though.

A couple of others I attended that I thought were big:

- Webber's first game back after the knee reconstruction. He got a great ovation and played unbelieveably well.

- Webber's first game in Arco with the Sixers. This has to be the most emotional moment I've ever experienced there. My wife actually had tears running down her cheeks when Webber was introduced.

The game against Portland where Miller hit the three to send it to overtime was amazing. The Kings were down like 9 with a minute or so to go, and tons of people were leaving. But then Miller and Bobby went off, and those who remained (obviously the die-hard loud ones anyway) went NUTS. We ended up losing in OT but Arco was awesome.

The best playoff games I attended as far as the crowd is concerned was I believe in 1999 against Utah in game 5 where Vlade missed the hook shot with about 15 seconds to go in the game. The crowd never stopped screaming from 20 minutes beofre the game started all the way through. I think they measured the decibells back then and it was something like 120+ decibells.

The 2nd best playoff game I attended was aginst the Lakers in 2001 (I think). It was game 3 after we lost the first 2 in LA. The crowd went crazy when at the beginning of the game a Laker jersey was burned in center court in effigy. It was truly a beautiful moment and the raucous crowd was nonstop well after the victory.

As far as last night , the crowd was much better than the regualar season but still a far cry from those 2 games I mentioned. Kings fans weren't spoiled back then.

I was at 2 games this season, and then I went to last nights game. The engergy and intesity was MUCH higher. One of the biggest things I noticed was lack of stomping of feet, and chanting DE-FENSE. In the regular seasons game the crowd SERIOUSLY lacked this. Last night the de-fense was consistant. Lots of cheering, yelling and screaming. WAY more intense, and the glow sticks at the beginning rocked.

As an aside, I sure wish there was something the crowd could chant when we have possession of the ball... It gets quiet because they don't know what to say.

So, I'm suggesting something which I blatantly stole from TV:

1. Right here.. stomp, stomp .. right now!!

2. Our house .. stomp, stomp ... our house!!

Does anyone else understand what I'm trying to get at?

yeah...or something like, Score!....clap clap....Score!...and you say it faster each time. The cheerleaders did it during my bball game, and it really pumps you up to score. :D

I think you're talking about 2000, because the Kings were swept in 2001. And as far as the jersey burning being a "truly beautiful moment"...no matter what team you root for, or what teams jersey was burned...that was classless.

So were all the comments the Lakers players used to make about Kings players. An eye for an eye.

If you don't see the difference...

Players having mutual trash-talking and an organization planning and carrying out something on an entirely different level are 2 different things. We'll have to agree to disagree on this subject. K?

I was there during the 99 Utah game and I can honestly say my ears were in pain... Would have loved to be there last night. The crowd brought their A game lets home tomorrow is the same.

Watching the game on TV....the first thing that came to mind.....wow this is easily the loudest arena in the NBA....easily. Arco cheers on every possession.

Lighten up, Hoopsfan. It wan't REALLY a jersey, more like a giant yellow tent, shaped like a jersey (must have been shaqs) It was all symbolic and it was all in good fun. Don't you wish we were still battling it out?

As for the question

1. Game 7, no question. NEVER heard ARCO like that before, so loud a late arriving friend of mine heard the noise from the toll booth as loud as a plane engine. Man, that was something

2. Game 5 against the Mavs, winning the series, that same year.

3. Webber's return games, both the one were he came bak from injury and the one where he returned a sixer. An electricity and a buzz keener than many play off games I've attended.

Watching Chris come back from the injury-game was something that I will always remember. I said immediately after the game that it was not only one of the best individual performances (all things considered) but one of the best basketball games I have been to (the way Arco welcomed him back)...

I still can't get over the pre-game hoopla-the video before intros, when the players first came on to the floor during warm-ups and Chris comes out kisses his hand and then places it on the center logo, all the while his fellow Detrotian Emeimen's song "Guess who's back" ** (is that the name of it?) plays on the loud speaker. During the National Anthem it got to the part " ...and the land of the free"...pause...and this guy yells "Welcome back Chris!." :D...I was smiling the whole game.

The games vs. the lakers go without saying. Those were truly the only games I wish never ended. I think that's when you know you have something good. With any other game, its 5min into the 3rd Q and you are looking at your clock, but between those two teams, the game went by so quickly even though its as if you lived and died with every make and miss.

I'm sure there are some people around here who can tells us a little bit about the adventures of Arco 1....By all accounts, they surpass or at the very least match anything we have seen at Arco II.

**In retrospect, how "fitting" was that song? The lyrics foreshadowed what was yet to come last season "Now this looks like a job for me so everybody just follow me because we need a little controversy...it feels so empty without me"

I need one too!! Reina that sounds so awesome. Nobody has mentioned that part before, I think that song is absolutely perfect. Damn forget the tissue I need a whole box!!! I don't think anyone who really loves this team can help getting teary eyed at this game.

I remember back in high school (geez, that's along time ago) ... anyway, we used to yell:

TWO POINTS ... stomp-stomp ... TWO POINTS .. stomp-stomp

(didn't have the 3 back then)

It'd be kinda weird to be yellin' TWO POINTS. and then the King's player gets the ball for an OPEN 3 ... then whadda ya do ???

Start yellin' ... MAKE IT 3 ...stomp stomp ... MAKE IT 3 ... stomp stomp

Then you start gettin' guys throwin' up 3's ... relax Adelman ... it's just a thought !!!

But, yeah .... it really gets quiet during our offensive possessions.
