Former NBA guard Jon Barry will provide analysis and studio commentary this season for ESPN. Excellent choice. Barry won't hesitate to call out a player for dogging it.

• As expected, Gerould signed a three-year Kings contract this week. Napear and Kozimor are closing in on similar deals.

• That the print and radio media even caught a glimpse of a practice dustup shows a curious change in policy. In the eight seasons that Rick Adelman was Kings coach, the media was allowed to watch a lot of stretching and free throws, meaning a lot of nothing. New coach Eric Musselman said he would raise the curtain at the practice facility to let the media get a glimpse of what the Kings work on. He followed through. Musselman is a rarity for doing so in the NBA because coaches fear the wrong eyes catching the wrong things. Like a near-fight.

That's great, while you don't want to reveal your secrets and the Kings sure are going through some different strategies this year no doubt. I like how open Muss is with the media. This guy sure is a breathe of fresh air, not trying to disrepect Adelman, but Muss is the guy the Maloofs always wanted a community guy that worked good with the players, management, fans, etc and Muss sure is not disappointing us in this regard. Adelman was very reserved and quiet which was good and bad, mostly bad for what the Maloofs wanted in a coach, but the guy did win and have a great record here in Sacramento. Muss has big shoes to fill, but I like what I see very early on by him making public appearances, going to eat with players and doing things with them to know them personally etc.

Eric Musselman and Rick Adelman are entirely different types of coaches, on and off the court.

I think we can be glad about Musselman and what he brings without feeling we might be disrespecting Rick Adelman.

I hope for a long and successful career for Musselman with the Kings. Whether he can put up the type of career stats Adelman has compiled won't be known for a long time.

I, for one, am looking forward to the journey.
