Becoming a contributing member to KF

Now that the dust has settled a bit and we know - starting tonight - we'll be seeing Kings basketball, it's a great time to think about becoming a contributing member to Kingsfans.com, the place to come for the best discussion of Kings basketball and lots of other great stuff.

Contributing members help defray some of the costs of keeping KF up and running. In exchange, you get the nifty "contributor" title under your username, you get the ability to have a larger avatar, you get first shot at things like group tickets, you get access to a special Contributors forum AND you get the heartfelt gratitude of the staff here at Kingsfans. Pretty cool, huh?

Becoming a contributing member is easy. Click on Settings (upper right hand corner). Once that screen opens, go down the left hand corner under My Accounts, and click on Paid Subscriptions. After that, simply select the option of choice.

I have the strong feeling this is going to be a great year to be a Kings fan. We're "back in black" - a phrase you first saw here over two years ago ;) - and our team is young and hungry.

Thanks all and

GO KINGS!!!

I re-upped my subscription in September. It's definitely worth it to me, to support this website. And we really do need more contributors. If you enjoy reading the information available here, then please give serious thought to subscribing. Thank you!

Thanks to those who've made contributions. Feel free to join in! The more, the merrier.

bump...

What could be better than giving yourself (or a friend) he gift of becoming a KF contributing member for Christmas?

:)

Want to do something really creative? Become a Secret Santa and gift a contributing membership to someone else.

And another bump.

I know there are more of you who would love to be contributing members. You just need a little reminder. And so, here it is...along with a YouTube clip to make you smile. (Have I mentioned how much I love high-speed internet?)

Just thought this needed a bump. (Appealing to guilt Glenn says) there are people who use this forum an incredible amount yet aren't contributors. I assume it's because they don't know how - it's not the easy to figure out especially if you don't know that contributing is a possibility.

I'm unable to contribute as I'm a broke-a** student. You can be sure it will be happening when I have a source of income in the future, though. I think people forget that someone has to pay to run this thing, and it's the best Kings forum there is.

I am going to pre apologize if this is out of line, but I am curious about something.

I run a forum, with a larger user base that this. We also use a forum software that is more robust than this. It was $150 to set up and $25 a year to upgrade. In addition there is less than $100 of domain and hosting cost. We have no advertising, a few of use who are the forum admin/mods pay the fees.

While I don't EXPECT anyone here to just pay the fees out of the goodness of their heart, I am curious as to where this money goes. If it's 10 people giving you $20, no biggie. But if a 100 people donate $25 each, what happens to those funds?

Jweremy could answer better than I, but I know he's looking into other possible options. For a long time there was about 12 contributers. That has recently gone up to 17! Amazing, eh? Being a bit sarcastic here, but a lot of people use and/or visit this site.

As of today we actually have 2,521 people signed up as members, although some probably don't come here anymore.

I pmed Bricklayer a while back, not sure if he got it. But I use invision power board for my other forum and it is very user friendly and very reasonably priced.

You can multi quote, embed, post links, easy to use spoilers, etc. And as the admin you can change modify all that stuff. I know for me, this board is very clunky. It doesn't always go to last post. When I catch up on a thread, especially in times like the draft where they are moving fast and I want to reply to 2-3 people, by the time I get to the end I have forgotten because I cannot multi quote.

It also has a feature to "like" posts, so users get rated by their peers.

Just through I would throw it out there.

It would be great if there was a Site Forum for suggestions and discussions about the site for times like these.....

Brick has nothing to do with setting up the forum.

I like the filipino singles ads.

Replacing a few mods might stir more interest too.

The mods here, by and large, are very good. I post on a lot of different forums and these are by far the best. Usually fair and easy to deal with. I've no doubt the quality of discussion would deteriorate if the mods were replaced by others.

Make it easy for people to donate. Put a link in the “Quick Links” (or even better in the header) that leads to instructions on how to contribute.

wow.

As a counter-testimonial, I have posted a lot on different forums for 18 years, and these are not the best. Usually not fair or easy to deal with.

I'll agree on this one. By and large, the quality of posters here is better than most places. I would like to see a mobile version that's easy to follow, but I know that's low on the list of things to get done.

A mobile forum? Cool. I don't even own a cell phone and have survived so far.

It's why I joined here. Some boards are just full of spewing venom, people-bashing and dirty words. I swear among my friends, but not over board. But then I have a pretty full vocabulary that expresses my thoughts much better.

While the cursing and personal attacks here are at a minimum compared to other forums, which I appreciate, we do have an ever-growing troll problem which is starting to turn people away. It's unfortunate.

You should have been here in the good old days. The trolls nowadays cannot begin to hold a candle to the classic Laker trolls of days gone by. Now THOSE were trolls. At least part of those causing problems now are refugees from other boards that ceased to exist or became mere shadows of their former selves, at least partially because of their lack of rules and order. Go figure...

:)

Oh my god, Laker trolls were the absolute worst.

I still have the scars from bashing my head against those reality-impaired morons.

IF you aren't contributing to the forums, then you really have no gorund to stand on in terms of complaining about how things are here.
