Beast Mode Cousins

I'm not going to take your bait to digress this thread into being about specific people on KF, instead of the players.

I thought you were referring to local vs national media, especially since I haven't seen anyone on here not giving him recognition. If you were referring to posters here, then you were actually the one baiting by starting your post that way and then whining about getting a response to it.

Cheers.

Ok...so...can you say holy double teams creating tons more open shots Batman!! How great will this make Tyreke and Marcus?? Isaiah it seems, too...WOW!

You spent two posts trying to justify your persecution complex, when you could have just answered the question: who's not giving Cousins recognition?

How about the end of the week?

But seriously, the learning curve on this guy is something I've never seen since Duncan. Eliminates problems almost overnight. He's quickly become a matchup problem for the entire league in the course of a couple months, and that's without getting calls to go his way. Scary how good he could be.

Seriously...

Well, eight years into his career, Duncan was a seven-time All-Star, eight times All-NBA, eight times All-Defense, two-time MVP, and had three rings. Are you projecting anything close to that?

DMC will be all NBA next year, and for a good run of years after that. Same with all-star. The defense might take a couple years to come on, and likely won't reach Duncan's level. But he'll be a better rebounder, scorer, passer. If things come together with the team, he'll be an MVP at least once within ten years. Timmy started in the NBA at age 21, after a good bit of college ball. Let's match it up by age in a few years and I'm saying it will be close to that, given the team is highly competitive and the Smart doesn't get canned for some stupid reason.

Give him ten years, and I am calling that his numbers will be in that range, sans perhaps the all NBA D, but more impressive in other areas.

Of course, Duncan started his NBA career 3 years later than Demarcus did, having four years at Wake Forest as opposed to Demarcus's one. Plus he did have the added benefit of playing beside some scrub named the Admiral for the earlier portion of his career, which certainly isn't going to make you look any worse.

and coach pop!

Just for S&G, here are the per 36 mins stats of 21-yr old TImmy D (rookie) vs 21-yr old Demarcus.

Duncan: 19.4PPG, 11RPG, 2.5APG, .6SPG, 2.3BPG
Demarcus: 18.6PPG, 13.9RPG, 1.2APG, 1.4SPG, 1.7BPG

I'll let the numbers speak for themself

I've never been a fan of p/36 numbers as they are purely hypothetical. However, there's no doubt that Boogie has a chance to be the best big to come into the NBA since D-Howard

He could be as good as he wants to be. Continue to shed a few more LBS and keep working the mid-range and passing skills.

In Kings wins, Cousins averages 15.3 rebounds a game. In losses, 9.6 rebounds a game.

That's a good one, although weighted a bit by the fact so many of our early losses were big blowouts where maybe he didn't get as many minutes as he would have otherwise. I guess you could say we are dependent on...boogie boards! Get it?? Haha! I slay myself.

Some other big breaks:

In wins: Tyreke 21.9pts; Thornton 21.6pts
In losses: Tyreke 14.8pts; Thornton 13.0pts

Fellas, fellas. OF COURSE I'm getting ahead of myself. And I will, thank you. I don't feel the need to contain my exuberance. And that's what it is, exuberance. But, let's talk again in 5-8 years. That's all I gotta say.

Of course he's got a way to go. I'm predicting the future is what I'm doing. As exuberant as I am... there is a large part of me that simply won't be surprised if/when he gets to that level. Here's what I'll do... I'll say, right now, that there is a strong possibility that he's a top 6 of all time... but I will definitely, officially call it right now, that he WILL be, when his career's all said and done, be viewed at LEAST as a top 10 big man of all time. I do stand by that. Exuberance and all. Anybody wanna get on board with the early call on that?

I put it down on my 2017 calendar... :D

I don't think it is. A lot of rebounding is done with position and boxing out. Howard gets his mostly because of sheer athleticism/hops. Cousins is getting his without getting much lift. Once Howards hops are gone will he be the same player?
No but he will still be 6'11'' with like a 7'5'' wingspan so I imagine he'll still be alright.

The real question is ... if he plays this way the rest of this month, how does Scott Brooks not choose him as an all-star in the West?

I don't think Cousins will get the recognition that Duncan has gotten. Someone a couple days ago said a great player won't be considered great unless he is on a great team. The sense of that still leaves me scratching my head but I believe it is true. If that is the case, even if Cousins is as good as Duncan (a hypothetical and meant to be nothing else) he will never win the awards similar to Duncan by virtue that he is a King. Duncan has been on great teams with the Admiral and Pop, etc. and Cousins hasn't had the advantage of starting his career as the 2nd best big man on his team much less the league. He will have to scratch and fight for every accolade.

Fortunately for us, individual awards be damned, he's ours and he is great.

Damn the national media they never give us any love and were done asking for it. 2002 mvp C-Webb in my book he was playing out of this world. Forget all of them its us against the world.

Great players have a huge impact on a team. If a player is truly great, the team he is on should win. Once we start winning, DMC will get the recognition. And with players like DMC and Reke, we will start winning at some point.

Really?

Duncan - 26/13 played 82 games
Webber - 25/10 played 54 games

Webber was our MVP, but you can't win the award missing 35% of the season. Give Chris Duncan/Garnett's longevity/durability and the story of the Kings plays out so differently.

This is why we need to bring in a couple more strong veterans to add to our youth.
