Battle of the Giants:

bajaden

Hall of Famer
This is what it used to look like in the NBA when 35 year old Wilt Chamberlain met 23 year Jabbar, the heir apparent to the top spot.

I hate to say it, but I can't think of one player currently playing in the NBA that could have competed with either one of them at the center position.

No one since Shaq, Olajuwon and maybe possibly David Robinson?

Then again you never know. Every player has their Pryzbilla ;)

I respect the olds and their era, but sorry I think otherwise.

I think these two giants probably will not be exceptional bigs in todays NBA. They have a long way to go in terms of skill/moves.

These two giants do not even have a spin move and they can't dribble with their non-dominat hand. They look awkward and probably will trip on their own foot if they try to do what the great bigs of today do. Also, look at how slow everyone moves. Sometimes I wonder if all the clips are slow-motion-clips because everyone seems to be too late to cover their man. Games look like very much the All-Star games of today where defense is non-existent. Can we really say this kind of defense can stop the likes of Howard, Duncan, or even Cousins in a real game like say the playoffs?

I think even the smaller players like Lebron James and Michael Jordan will posterize both centers many many times in a game if they want to.

Wilt Chamberlain was 7'1" tall with a 7'9" wingspan. Aside from basketball, he was a world class hurdler and a world class volleyball player. If you teke the time to look up NBA records, Wilt holds more records than just about any other player in the history of the NBA. Had they kept track of blocked shots in his era, he would probably hold that record as well. In his era, he went up against some of the best centers of all time, including Jabbar, Moses Malone, Bill Russell, Willis Reed, Nate Thurmond, Wes Unsell, and the list goes on.

On one occasion, a player whose name I can't remember tried to block Wilt's dunk, and had his arm broken. When Wilt came out of college he shocked people with his ballhandling for a big man. He even played a year on the Globe Trotters. Wilt wasn't just some tall stiff. He was a world class athlete. Jabbar by the way, is the all time leader in points scored in the NBA, and as you saw in that video, his sky hook was virtually unstoppable. There are some players in the HOF from olden times that wouldn't be nearly as effective today as they were in their time. But Wilt And Jabbar wouldn't be one of them.
