BTC (before the crash), I had posted a list of "basic truths" I had assembled over the years about life. I add to it periodically...but for the most part these truths are things I've found help describe my philosophy of life.

I had a request to post them again, so here they are:

Basic Truths of Life

1. Life isn’t fair.

2. Without sorrow there can be no joy.

3. What goes around comes around.

4. No guts – no glory.

5. Revenge is wrong, retribution isn’t.

6. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

7. Do it right the first time and you’ll only have to do it once.

8. Good enough isn’t.

9. A friend is a relative you choose for yourself.

10. You never have to make excuses for the truth.

11. There’s no such thing as a free lunch.

12. Forgive, but don’t forget.

13. Cruelty to any creature brings a tear to God’s eye.

14. God never gives you more of a burden than you can bear.

15. Learn something new every day of your life.

16. Never make a promise you don’t intend to keep.

17. The best good deeds are known only to God.

18. Respect without love is infinitely better than “love” without respect.

19. There’s a reason for everything.

20. If you don’t try your hardest, you’ll never know how good you really are.

21. A friend is someone who knows all about you and likes you anyway.

22. Mediocrity is its own punishment.

23. No matter where you go, there you are.

24. Be careful what you wish for.

25. The evil you do returns to you ten-fold.

26. The best way to defeat an enemy is to make him your friend.

27. Honor yourself and your family by being kind and considerate to everyone you meet.

28. Remember to thank God for his guidance in the good times as well as for his support in the bad times.

29. **** happens.

30. Every day that starts with waking up is a good day.

31. All things considered, I’d rather have cats.

32. Don’t sweat the small stuff (and it’s all small stuff!).

33. Live to get to Heaven, not to stay out of Hell.

I'm going to add the one in todays column by Carolyn Hax

"When you know something is wrong, it's always worth whatever it takes to say no."
