Barnes canceled - Now looks like Robinson isn't coming either.

I doubt it. JT can swing between center and pf. The trio could work very well. If you mean, though, that the Maloofs might not pursue JT because of $, then yeah, I guess you could have a point.

The trio can't protect the middle at all, which as our front office's interest in the shotblcokers has shown is an absolute priority. Maybe THE priority this offseason after the defensive debacle last year. Cousins is a given. That leaves one slot in a 3big rotation for a non-shotblocking rebounding roleplayer, and one slot for lane clogging shotblocker. JT fills the first niche. So does Robinson. Neither fills the second.

Peja never worked out for Petrie.....

Yes, but Petrie's statement about never drafting a guy again who didn't came after/because of GWall. Which is kind of silly given that GWall was, given draft positon, one of the best picks Petrie evr has made.

Actually, I don't think the #1 priority is shot blocking. I think #1 is to get an above average reliable 3. Priority #2 would be to balance out the starting lineup, which presumably could be helped by #1. Number 3a for me is to get more bench strength because the bench was horrid last year and was the cause of many losses. 3b would be defensive improvement, which includes shot blocking, but doesn't equate to shot blocking. Robinson would help with both 3a and 3b. I would anticipate he could be a great guy off the bench in his rookie year that could assist the bench and help on D.

And Wallace turned out way better than the guy he wanted who turned into a major headcase in Arenas.

So then, smokescreen?

But at the same time, he wasn't really ready to contribute in his three years here and still needed a full season of real PT in Charlotte before hew as ready to blossom. I suspect that there were some maturity/coachability issues as well from what I remember gathering of the Petrie comment in question. I'm not really sure whether the draft combine included an interview portion in 2001, but my sketchy memory says that the interviews are a more recent addition - which suggests that for Wallace, we might not have had a chance to sit down and talk with him at all. I do believe we got to sit down with all the top picks this year, and perhaps if none of the "big 4" come in for a workout, that interview might go some distance towards countering the "no workout" roadblock.
