Article on Miller and the Kings

As I've thought for some months now - 2007 could very well be the end of Brad Miller in Sac. He needs to get tough consistently, and show consistent effort if he's not shooting well. If that doesn't happen, I expect him to be out. While his offense is good most of the time, his glaring negatives come up a lot, and isn't getting any younger of course.

I like Tyrant's sig better...At least Kenny brings it on the court...Miller should do that more than once every 6 games or so.

You know what is really funny.......most of these sites will "advertise" for people to "write" for them. They are more than likely no more connected than we are and are simply giving an opinion, like we do here. The guy who does the actual site does give some pretty good stuff every now and again but the team reports are pretty much done by you and I so take it for what it's worth.

Interesting article but not really pro or con. It does remind us of the outside shooting by Brad and how that can present problems to the opposing 5. And he IS the leading assists guy among all centers.

With Musselman a lot will change and so too what will be Brads role.

I'm kind of banking on Muss having coached Troy Murphy, Brian Cardinal and Cliff Robinson in his first time around for him to be able to figure out Brad's game on offense. Not the Princeton passing, but the jumpshooting big man bit. The passing will go down, and that hurts Brad's value. Murphy boards. Robinson defends. Cardinal...well, sucks. Brad's 2nd trait is the passing, but there is no system better for big man passing than the Princeton, and so inevitably whatever Muss runs there will be less of that.

As for problems -- down the stretch last year I noticed teams having really figured out Brad + they were guarding him with their SFs. In any case, he was getting his clock cleaned by every scrub center in the league on defense so it made it rather hard to appreciate the occassional jumper rattling in. Just so passive.

In any case, in some ways I feel better about Brad now that the contender push seems to have been set aside. He is not a title winning center, in fact is more or less the anttihesis of everything you look for in a title winning center. But take that pressure away, and he's still better than most.

Lol. Brad is way better than Kenny no question. But it seems as though Brad has turned into a much larger version of Peja. Tall yet apathetic, extremely white, can't jump and sits at the top of the key waiting to jack up some 3's. If he has a series of nagging injuries then we could see a trade.

I love Peja, but I couldn't resist.

Miller is better than Kenny Thomas.

But at 6' 7" K9 easily out rebounds 7' Big Bad Brad. Brad you should be ashmed of yourself. :D

Hopefully junking the Princeton offense will see Brad get a little closer to the basket and Bibby can be more of a PG. We don't need a PG Center. It's great Brad is a good shooter, but we need a traditional center who is close to the basket, we need rebounding and basket defending much worse than a 7' footer who can spread the floor!!!

Hopefully, with Adelman gone, people will forever quit talking about the Princeton offense, which the Kings haven't really used since Vlade left.

O.k. then why does our 7' foot center hit 18 footers and tries to pass in that area while not playing near the basket?

We'll see how Brad is this season. Aside from his jumpshot and ability to pass (which will probably be lessened) - everything else about him is up in the air and will be determined this season.

For me, I'm leaning a bit more towards he isn't going to get much better or won't be that consistent, outside of those two things. Because of his age and the hits to the body he's taken.

As if that is what made the Princeton offense the Princeton offense....

We still used heavy doses of the Princeton right up until Ron showed up in town. Then Rick drew some chicken scratches on the board and tried to retool the whole offense on the fly.

As an aside, the passing by big men is one of, actually probably THE characteristic of the Princeton. But outside shooting big men on the other hand are hardly exclusive to that system. In any case, we were running it heavily as recently as the beginning of last season when Brad had a number of triple doublish type assist games and Peja was still around as a cutter. But its pretty much all gone now. 2 holdovers in personnel, none in coaching. Time to move on. Which given our success over the years with it might very well turn out to be an unfortunate statement, but we'll see. So far as I know, no champion at any level has ever run the Princeton (although some overseas systems bear a resemblance), so moving away isn't all bad.

The other factor with Brad Miller last year that no one is taking into account here is...WHO WAS HIS BACK-UP...It was SAR(when healthy). I think Adelman pretty much told him you'll see the bulk of the minutes, so don't foul out.

Well that attitude will definitely have you playing worse defense, especially against "srcub" centers.

Brad has to pace himself last year. I truly think Woods will show that he is at least a DECENT back-up C and help along those lines with Brad next year, in being more aggressive on D.

Don't count Brad out yet, fellas...the best is yet to come, IMO.

What i want from Brad is to hit his shots, show some effort on the court, rebound like a madman, try to play some defense, show some effort and to show some effort. Maybe he should show some effort (catching my drift yet?). Maybe having an ok backup can help him out a little bit. He won't have to play as many minutes and won't be worn out towards the end of the season. Having no backup is still not an excuse to let Kwame friggin Brown look like a Hall of Famer.

And Robert Swift for one half. I understand he developed to some degree, but damn. He shouldn't of had that good of a half. ;)
