You can assume it's what 90% of people would do, but you can also assume the moon is made of green cheese. Using that as an excuse for his behavior is pitiful. Saying "raised testosterone levels" are an excuse is pathetic.

You're trying to make excuses for inexcusable behavior. I'm truly glad Artest himself has never cowered behind those kinds of statements. He made a mistake; it happens. BUT with Artest it wasn't the first time.

HE HAS ANGER MANAGEMENT ISSUES. Based on a number of articles written about him, he has had them for most of his life. Is he dealing with them better now? It certainly appears like it. I would much rather see that explanation that the ridiculous "he can't help it, he's just a man" blathertrap.

and Entity? If 10 of your friends would have done the same thing Artest did, I'm willing to bet NONE of them are making millions of dollars as professional athletes. With those kinds of privileges come additional responsibilities. Asking your friends what they would do is irrelevant because they have no basis for reference.

Although I think the moon is made of green cheese, Artest went overboard. You might even say he baited a negative fan reaction by laying on the scorer's table. I'm not excusing the beer thrower in saying that.

Men are more volatile physically than women but that does not excuse Ron. The fact that he almost was in the battle of the century with Ben Wallace does not excuse him either. I'm sure he was extremely tense and was trying to put on an air of calmness maybe as much for himself as for anyone else. He quite obviously was giving the Detroit team a very clear message that he didn't want to continue with hostilities although I suspect he was keyed for warfare.

Moving forward, I think Ron should acknowledge to the Sacramento fans that he understands their concerns. He might also elaborate on what he has done to correct it. The #1 correction is what the league did to him and I'm sure it got his attention. Stern was stern and was appropriate. Fear can alter a person's behavior.

Before that fight there was a certain unwritten idea that fans became fair game and if a player was assaulted with something thrown or just verbal abuse, he had a right to retaliate. Maybe this would be with the single digit salute or something verbal. As difficult as it may be for some people to stomach, the player has less rights than the fan in this area of conduct.

As I already mentioned, bring it out Ron and I think people may like you a lot better. They may not have full faith that you can control yourself completely but they will like you better in that you are acknowledging that some dislike and worry is well warranted. In the end, I think all Ron wants is to be liked by Sacto fans and he is missing the bigger picture. In his mind, 2004 may be far in the past. For us, it is not.

I actually think that might be a very good suggestion. By acknowledging the past and the lessons learned, perhaps he and we could all get over it.

ok every once in a while it is ok to go against the grain right?

I think Artest was treated unfairly in the Detroit incident. I saw it. Artest did not beat the guy up. He intimidated him and grabbed his collar I think, but he did not slug him that I saw.

On the other hand, Stephen Jackson gleefully slugged a guy with all he had, as did Jermaine O'Neal. Yet those hoods got off with light penalties and the book was thrown at Ron. Those guys acted like there was a riot and they were INTO it.

I think the guy who threw that beer deserved to get his butt kicked for it. He was a dirtbag who ALMOST got what was coming to him.

Sorry that's just how I feel. Once when I was a kid I was taunting some athlete (MISL soccer long long ago - I think his name was Borja, and he had been doing some dirty fouls) and the guy invited me to come on down and duke it out if I wanted to. . Taught me a lesson - I might have peed my pants I don't remember for sure... but I never thought I had free license to mouth off however I wanted to an athlete/performer - much less to ASSAULT one by throwing a beer at him.

I just have a lot of emphathy for Ron - I like him and I am glad we have him. I think a lot of his stuff gets blown out of proportion and he is easy to pick on because he is crazy.

Ron: if you read this blog... there are only 23% who hate you. Yes another 45% wish you were gone, but hey you're doing better than the President! And I love you man!

Yet nothing is more irrelevant than the opinion of a woman in talking about what a man would do.

I so don't get this crap about how if a man makes millions he somehow gives up his right to respect. Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard of in making the remark about how much money he makes vs. how he is supposed to act.

A man is a lot more than someone with exterior genitalia who thinks it proves his manhood if he says on a message board that he'd clock somebody.

Either you're purposefully trying to escalate this whole thing or you're incredibly naive. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and opt for the latter.

The dumbest thing isn't my comment. The dumbest thing is you not understanding what it means.

I'm out of this discussion. Your sexism is running rampant and I refuse to be a part of it.

I wasn't being sexist. Just saying that a woman can't know what a man thinks. Hell I admit I don't know what a woman thinks. How am I wrong for saying a woman don't know what a man thinks?

I'm not sure where this notion comes from that you have to clock someone to get respect. The respect comes from being a professional and doing your job to the best of your abilities despite distractions going on around you. And yes, that includes getting a little beer on your uniform. Because everyone knows you can't be respected if you have beer on your uniform and you didn't go into the stands to bash some heads in, right? I mean, heck. What's a guy got to do to get some respect around here, right?

I was speaking on respect for ones self. Not the gaining of respect by clocking somebody. Its called self respect. Doing that to someone BY LAW is assualt and is just like punching him in the face. But I guess you wouldn't think that hitting that guy back would be suitable either.

I'll take the smart money too. I know where it is, as well.

This topic has been .

6th you may want to look further up the board and see where I said that. I'll save you the trouble. I didn't. That was slims way of making me out to be a racist by putting words in my mouth. I was also called a sexist earlier becaue I said a woman don't know what a man thinks when he gets assaulted. I don't know where that came from either. But hey I'm just one of the fools.
