Taken from the Sacramento Bee just now....

BOSTON - The opening act of the Ron Artest show - Kings' style - may not begin tonight.
While the forward who was traded to Sacramento from Indiana for small forward Peja Stojakovic joined the Kings Thursday, Stojakovic has yet to report to the Pacers in Indiana. He was scheduled to board a private plane sent by the Pacers to Sacramento on Friday, with an estimated time of arrival around 5 p.m. Eastern time. The Pacers are facing Cleveland at home in a 7 p.m. Eastern time tipoff. If Stojakovic doesn't reach the team by the time the Kings face the Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m. Eastern - or if Artests' former bosses don't' phone the league office quickly to say Stojakovic has reported - Artest can not play.
Artest missed the Kings' shootaround this morning, but he was fully involved a day before. He joined the Kings in New York City, walking on the team bus headed for Boston before most of the other players. He greeted each one, then went to dinner with point guard Mike Bibby and a few others later that evening. No one could blame the Pacers for not doing Artest any favors, perhaps taking their time with the call to the league office so as to delay Artest's new beginning. The six-year veteran has been incredibly destructive to their past two seasons. He was suspended for 73 games for his part in the Nov. 19, 2004 brawl in Detroit, and deactivated from the team this season after making a trade demand on Dec. 10. After his request, the Pacers played through six-plus weeks of distraction and added media attention until Artest finally landed in Sacramento. Intentional or not, a delay may occur that would prolong Artest's debut until Sunday in Toronto.

I would like Artest to get on the court as soon as possible, we need the help right away. I hope he can get in shape relatively fast.

Well, it is a decision by the Pacers. Don't see them doing Artest a favor but maybe they would do it for us

They said he was involved in shootaround yeterday, so I don't think he's restricted from shooting around with the team. He just can' play in an NBA sanctioned game until peja reports. If Ron can't play tonight then I'm going to the gym, if he's playing I'm moving my workout to tomorrow.

I will be courtside at Pacers/Cavs tonight and am hopeful at the very least that Peja will be behind the bench. I'm holding out a little hope that he will play. I don't think Walsh/Bird are the type that will try to screw RA or the Kings. These guys are first class all the way.

I'm also recording the Kings game on NBA league pass (hopefully Cisco still sees some meaningful PT tonight).

Hey Indyking, do you know if league pass is free this weekend? Im hoping they got the game on Directv for free. I think its the 600's channels.

I wouldn't worry about Ron not being in shape. I'd be shocked if he isn't in excellent shape. He might be a little rusty, and he has never been a pretty player, but he'll play hard.

Since the Celtics are an eatsern confernece team, I would think the pacers would want Ron to play, so I think the pacers will give the OK

...and oh btw, Ron skipped practice to go to his studio because he all of a sudden had the perfect rap lyrics to go with his new song "Im going to Cali and I aint got the cowbell blingbling".

According to the "manual" we should not be surprised if that is true and also we should not take it seriously. Additionally, we should ignore it and move on.

Man these rules are hard to learn;)

I was thinking the same thing. If the Celtics lose to the Kings it's good for the Pacers.

It's also good idea for the Pacers to cooperate with the Kings providing it does them no harm. You never know when the tables will be turned, one day the Pacers might need a favor from the Kings.

I realy don't think Artest will start whenever it is that he starts playing.

A) He doesn't know anything about the offensive system

B) He hasn't had more than a shoot around with the Kings.

C) I'm sure he'll be in excellent shape. If he's a gym rat he won't let himself go. I feel like crap if I have to skip a work out for some reason. Even if he's been playing in pick up games, it's not quite the same as the NBA. Being in physical shape, and being in shape in the way of wind is 2 different things.

There is no reason for Ron to start. Bring him off the bench for right now here and there, until he gets some practice time etc. Just make his minutes more and more until he looks comfortable.

I think if he plays, he starts. It has always been Rick's style to be very clear and consistent about who his 5 are, and they didn't trade Peja so they could get a role-player. I will be surprised if he brings him off the bench. It will be interesting to see.

A) how hard is it to stand in the corner;)

B) we will just treat him like on of the "injured guys"

C) being in great shape was never a requirement to start for the Kings (Vlade);)

Artest has played with Brad. At least there is some relationship with a core King. He wouldn't be going in totally cold.

I'd be surprised to see him start. If he flounders at all and RA has to pull him he starts out on a bad footing. OTOH, if RA puts him in for short minutes and builds him up it gives him a fair chance to learn the system without too much pressure.

I don't know what's going to happen. This is all way too interesting.

Just watching ESPN Sportscenter. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else. According to ESPN, Peja has reported to the Pacers and Ron will be in the Starting Lineup Tonight. Also in the story, the Celtics are trying to beat the clock and get there new players in tonights game. They are currently undergoing their physicals.

The New Protocalls for a Boston Physical
1. Is he breathing?
2. Can He identity the number fingers the doc holds up (plus or minus 4)
3. Can he dress him self?
A score of 2 or better is passing.

They are talking on the PGPT as if Ron will play. They were talking to one of the coaches about if they'll run anything special for Ron, etc. etc.
