Artest a possibility for the Cavs (merged)

#1
The talk is that LeBron James' associates are making it clear to the Cleveland Cavaliers that improving the team quickly remains a litmus test for the forward's decision on whether he'll look favorably on re-signing in Cleveland.
The clock is ticking toward the trade deadline. Anderson Varejao and Drew Gooden are the names that come up most often, though the Cavs would most like to deal Larry Hughes. Acquiring Ron Artest from the Kings remains possible if the Cavs would take some of Sacramento's bad contracts. The question is how much they have to do to satisfy James.

I still really don't see how this would be possible given Cleveland's terrible trade assets.

Although what about this somewhat crazy idea:

Sacramento outgoing:
Artest
Kenny Thomas

Sacramento incoming:
Ira Newble
Eric Snow
Brandan Wright
Mickael Pietrus

Cleveland outgoing:
Ira Newble
Drew Gooden
Eric Snow

Cleveland incoming:
Ron Artest
Kenny Thomas
Austin Croshere

Golden State outgoing:
Mickael Pietrus
Brandan Wright
Austin Croshere

Golden State incoming:
Drew Gooden

Still probably doesn't get the deal done, but yet another idea. With Cleveland, I think it would have to be a 3 way deal.

Outgoing:
Ron Artest
Shareef
Kenny Thomas

Incoming:
Ira Newble
Eric Snow
Donyell Marshall
Devin Brown

This trade is full of garbage but 5 mil would expire this summer and the rest next summer. Wouldn't be my first choice and hopefully we would get a pick too but for cap room only it would help a lot.

Don't know if this was posted yet. IMO i'd never take Larry Hughes. Here's my reason:

I wouldnt want Larry Hughes on his best day, especially with his horrible contract, even if it DID mean getting rid of K-9 or SAR...Hughes has a bad attitude, and would be just as much of a distraction as K-9 ISN'T while sitting on our bench right now...plus he still has 2 years after this one left on his contract...NO THANKS! Oh, and this thread probably needs to be in the 'personnel moves' section, btw.

edit: it looks like Denver is in full-pursuit of Ron anyway, and I'd take the Kleiza-Najera and a 1st Rnd pick ANY day over anything involving Larry Hughes.

I still like the Denver possibility more so than Cleveland. No reason to get Hughes, varejao, or Gooden now.
I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to pawn off KT if it were out there.

Artest + KT + Douby

for

Gooden + Newble + Jones + Gibson

Rosters:
Snow/Douby
James/Hughes/Brown/Pavlovic
Artest/Brown
Varejao/Marshall/Simmons/KT
Ilgauskas/Jones

Udrih/Johnson/Jones/Gibson/Lue
Martin/Salmons
Garcia/Newble
Gooden/Williams/Moore
Miller/Hawes/Wright

expirings: Wright, Newble, Johnson, Lue = $13M (I'd say move forward with Udrih and Gibson)

Completely agree. No way I'd even consider Artest for Gooden and Hughes unless they include a first round pick. It just does nothing without a pick. We are building towards the future, Gooden and Hughes do nothing for that.

I love this trade, but I don't think Golden State does. Why would they give up Brandan Wright for Drew Gooden when its possible they could get Artest for him?
