Arena operator AEG could become a local player

Youngman is at it again. The pie-in-the-sky column is addressed to Lakers fans but yet he wrote the following:

"Think about that. If there are teams that actually will lose less money without playing — and I assume the Sacramento Kings/Anaheim Royals are one of them — what incentive will those owners have to compromise without getting the hard cap they desire to try to even the competitive playing field in the future? None."

The Anaheim Royals do NOT exist...except in Youngman's World, population 1.

The media falls for the rhetoric too much. They need to realize that both sides are in full blown leverage mode right now. Of course they are saying that they are more than happy to miss the entire season if it means that they can get what they want. That's how negotiations start. Both sides draw lines in the sand. What they are missing is that this is what happened 13 years ago as well. There were tons of rumors of the likelihood of the entire season being missed. They came within 24 hours of that happening.

When the media talks about how things are different now as opposed to before, they are conveniently forgetting that all these same threats were taking place then as well and the system was much worse before than it is now. Maybe the numbers are too high but the owners now have max salaries, rookie scale contracts and contracts that are limited to 6 years. None of that existed 13 years ago yet they were still able to crank out a 50 game season.
