Are the Kings entering a rebuild phase?

Will The Kings actually commit to a rebuild for once?

If I spot you @Rob-The-Great, can you name a second person who has even implied such a thing?
You also misconstrued my argument. I didnt say that getting top picks was bad idea.

What you think we are just going to draft young people and not have vets on the team?

If anything, Westbrook is the perfect person to teach a young kid how to go hard each play and be competitive.

Pelicans are full of top picks.
Zion is a generational talent, not just a high pick, yet there culture of losing triumphs anything they put on that floor.

Try to win every dam game you can or get off the floor. If that results in a top 3 pick, great if not, plenty of stars have come from outside of that area

I didn't even do that. That was me trying to give @Joshyjosh31 the benefit of the doubt that that's how your posts could conceivably be interpreted.

Which wasn't even the point, either way: the point was he seemed to be implying that that was an opinion held by a significant number of people on this message board, and my contention is that it is not.

You dont have to spot anything.
You don't seem to understand what that expression means.

He's saying that that's an opinion held by "some" people. I'm saying that I don't think he can name two people who hold that opinion, even if you count for one of them (and ignoring the fact that you technically didn't even say that).

Sir you dont seem to understand what misconstrued means.

You implied it, he also implied it. Im clarifying my stance since it was misconstrued to lean a way that was not factually the case.

Its not a big deal, im hardly going to get upset about the kings on a forum.

If you want to take my argument as me thinking professional players who make millions should try to win everytime they step on the court then absolutely. I dont believe in tanking 10 games into a season, however if we have 10 games left and no chance to do anything of value, im all for sitting vets and letting rookies lose meaningless games.

This is one of our weakensses. Winning end of season meaningless games. But even thinning about tanking and wasting a whole year of fans time and money is completely unprofessional and creates a bad culture.

No, only he implied it; I simply restated his implication, citing you as a possible person he believes said it, while acknowledging that you didn't actually say that.

We're all going to keep this at the front of our minds. Pretty soon Silver will make it that only 1 team from each conference doesn't make the post season :D
Hey, I would not mind seeing a high-school format where everyone goes to the playoffs, with a single-game elimination for everyone but the top six teams.

Despite the predictably horrible start to the season, next to last in the conference, the Kings are only 2 games behind a play-in spot. Just keep that in mind.
As of this morning, 2.5.

But we need to keep in mind that we have had the hardest strength-of-schedule in the NBA by far, and a very important cog in Keegan has been out. We're not going to spend nearly as much time playing 4-guard lineups once Keegs is back. And our schedule is going to lighten up considerably.

By a hand count (so maybe a flub or two) if we include the next four games (Keegan will probably miss these too)...
First 18 games we face 13 teams currently at least .600 (72% of games)
Last 64 games we face 21 teams currently at least .600 (33% of games)

We're going to start winning some games. This opening stretch of 18 games absolutely devastated us, and we're likely to come out of it 10 games under .500, but after that, we're going to start creeping back. I just want to make sure that y'all are ready for that to happen.

Should help build the confidence of our young guys at least

Yes, the absolutely predictable and worst case scenario. We put ourselves in too big of a hole to dig out of, and instead of committing to resting guys until they can be traded, we will inevitably win games we should and find ourselves picking 9th. Makes me sick

The top 7 are likely a lock. Portland should land in the top 10 because they are tired of losing and want to build on something. Ham said their GM was at a kings game recently, I’d imagine they are going to try and add at the deadline. Jazz likely fall off.

That leaves the Suns, Grizz, Kings, Clips and Mavs “fighting” for the last 2 spots. The Clips and Suns want to make the playoffs. What do Memphis and Mavs want to do? I think the Grizz will try to win and get it together when they get their centers back. Mavs could pivot and trade AD so they are a tank candidate.

if I had to guess it goes:

Okc
Denver
Houston
LA
Minnesota
Golden State
_____________
San Antonio
LAC
Portland
Memphis
_____________
11Phoenix
12 Sacramento
13 New Orleans
14 Dallas
15 Utah

Yeh you can’t do that any more. Cant rest guys for bull reasons.

The Spurs just sat Wenbenyama for a "calf strain". He will be playing in their next game

That’s not a bull reason. The Jazz were intentionally holding guys out last year to tank and they were penalized for it. This is not a strategy we should implore. Reduce minutes? Sure. Trade guys if the options presents itself? Sure. Intentially sit guys, naw I’m not down with that.

You absolutely can.
Sabonis out for 6-8 weeks with a hamstring/back issue. That 6-8 weeks quickly turns into 8-10. LaVine out 4-6 weeks with a right thigh contusion.

People mistake the idea that we need the entire team resting. You need to come up with a few injuries, and then guys take turns sitting with "minor injuries".

Look at the Pacers. Yes real injuries happen, but I guarantee they are prolonging and letting guys sit longer than if they were in the race.

We can waive Russ. Keegan shouldn't be rushed back, initially I read those injuries can take 3 months to fully heal, why do we want 80% keegan on the floor?
Suddenly you are
Maxime/Eubanks
Precious/
Demar/Keon
Nique/Monk
Schroder/Carter

That team will struggle against bad teams. And then hopefully by the deadline a few of these guys are traded as well.

top 3 looking like stars and some in here want Russ and the grandpas to win 36 games cause tanking doesn’t work
Not sure if this was directed towards me but if so I wasn’t saying I want the team to go for the play in. I’m saying if the Kings are not finishing with a top 3 worst record then there’s not enough upside with the current system in finishing 5th vs finishing 10th to just tank for the 5th spot. In that case the Kings would have to have a worse record than the Wizards, Nets, Pacers, Pelicans and with this current roster I think it’s unlikely, so unless they dump Sabonis, LaVine and DeRozan the team isn’t likely to finish bottom 3.

If there’s deals to dump those 3 and the other vets and completely bottom out I’m all for it, I just don’t think it’s realistic. But if this is the roster that stays, we are not finishing bottom 3 so might as well go for the playin instead of tanking for the 5th spot.

If I was a player I’d be pissed if the team implored that strategy. If im ready to go, im not sitting out so the team can increase their odds of a higher draft pick to replace me with.

If I had to guess we are heading towards a 6-9 finish in the race to the bottom regardless what we do. Would be helpful if the Clips, Grizz and Mavs would pull their heads out of there ***.

Also, they should have a rule that if you make the finals, you are capped at the worst lottery odds the following year should you miss the playoffs. No finals one year and first pick in the draft the next year nonsense.

Yet good teams do this all the time. It's only bad teams that get stuck in this mindset that I should prioritize guys who won't be here long term over guys who will be. Ideally most of those vets are gone by the deadline anyways. The only 2 that should potentially be on the roster next year are Schroder/Monk. LaVine should be bought out, we should exercise Demars partial if he isn't traded, and Sabonis should 1000% be traded before the deadline. They are all getting paid, I don't feel bad for any of them.
Carter, Keon, Nique, Keegan, Maxime are the (potential) long term guys, they should be eating the minutes.

I think LAC will get it in gear. Memphis is better than us so short of them sitting the better guys, they will also figure it out. Dallas could go either way, lots of injuries so they'll probably not rush most of these guys back and prioritize getting Flagg a long term running mate.
