Arco game report: Injuries bad, but attitude is worse

Rick Adelman gets nervous every time Pete Youngman comes near, because it's never good news when the team trainer has that look.

Moments before Sunday's tipoff against the Golden State Warriors, the Kings' coach learned that he would not have the services of injured Cuttino Mobley (bad toe) and Corliss Williamson (tender elbow).

And the Kings didn't have Brian Skinner in the second half after the center sprained both thumbs, meaning just holding the ball would be a chore.

Which leaves the Kings where, exactly?

Williamson is expected to play Tuesday against Portland. Mobley and Skinner could be out longer with their ailments.

In the meantime, Adelman is demanding a better attitude by all healthy hands, stressing that making the playoffs is no sure thing if there are any more clunkers like Sunday's 104-94 setback.

"These guys act like we'll be in the playoffs, that we'll be OK," Adelman said. "No, it's not the same team. ... It's an attitude. The attitude we're playing with right now is not going to work. If we can get as mad about the guy getting the layup on us as we do about the officials ... "

Et cetera

With Brad Miller on crutches and Skinner out of the game, the Kings were in need of a center. Yet Greg Ostertag didn't hear his name called. Adelman said the Warriors presented too many matchup problems in order for Ostertag to be a factor.

* After losing 11 straight games at Arco Arena, the Warriors have now won two in a row. What's more, the Kings lost their 10th game at Arco this season after going 34-7 last season.

* Adelman on game officials Bennett Salvatore, Monty McCutchen and Phil Robinson: "I think the officials had the same kind of game we did. Bad. Will I get fined for that?"

* At 18, rookie Andris Biedrins became the youngest Warriors player to start a game. He had career highs in points (12) and rebounds (10).

* The Kings have been outrebounded in six straight games and have yielded an average of 104.6 points.

* Mike Bibby has led the Kings in assists in every game since the Chris Webber trade, including eight Sunday.

* The Warriors had been 0-9 without Jason Richardson in the lineup.

Kings for a day

KENNY THOMAS - With the Kings short-handed, Thomas came off the bench to provide 34 minutes, the most by any Kings interior player. He scored 18 points with eight rebounds.

Big number

11 - Consecutive points the Warriors scored to begin the game.

Question posed

WOULD IT BE OK TO PERFORM SOME SORT OF CEREMONY ON THE ARCO ARENA GROUNDS AS A WAY TO BE DONE WITH THESE INJURIES ONCE AND FOR ALL? More pressing is how the Kings respond with more bodies suddenly crowding the ailment wagon, with Cuttino Mobley and Brian Skinner now a nervous day-to-day. The Kings found out Sunday how key two of their newest additions are, Mobley for his fourth-period firepower when Peja Stojakovic is off and Skinner for the mere presence to prevent so many easy routes down the lane. Even on the home court, the Kings can't catch a break. Oops. Need to rephrase that.

Things are really getting strange if a reporter is asking if some kind of ritual should be done to remove the injury curse...

Hey, what could it hurt? I'm all for it!!!

If we can get as mad about the guy getting the layup on us as we do about the officials ... "

LOL...if ONLY! :)

I love the Question Posed...it couldn't hurt right?

---------
Those young guys that the Warriors have are gonna do big things one day in this league...they have a lot of potential...they played really well..and stepped their game up a notch...considering they were down guys...

I'm glad that Coach said that. Especially the last part. Let's not allow easy layups.

Arco Arena is built on an old Indian burial ground. Why do you think they want to build a new arena so soon!

Is that really true? I am pretty superstitious and believe in all that karma and that junk. That may explain it all, sure glad I never bought a house in Natomas.

hey i remember the red sox brought a priest out to fenway park to reverse the curse, and they won the title

anyone got a priest's number :D ;)

Well, my mom's cousin is a Monsignior in Dallas. :) I call him Father Don.

Removing the curse

After considerable time and effort, I was able to locate the following purificiation rituals for those who have been crossed or cursed. I think everyone who has ever stepped into Arco Arena will have to do it in order for it to truly be effective:

SPIRITUAL BATHS: A TRADITIONAL REMEDY FOR UNCROSSING, JINX-BREAKING, AND PURIFICATION

To take off a jinx or remove crossed conditions, many people make use of a spiritual bath combined with a simple candle-spell. To perform this work, you will need a spiritual bath preparation made with purifying herbs or an Uncrossing type bath preparation. The hyssop and rue herb baths are things you can make up yourself from hyssop or rue leaves or you can buy ready-made Uncrossing Bath Crystals with hyssop and rue, or -- for a really strong job -- you can use the 13 Herb Spiritual Bath, which contains hyssop, rue, and 11 other Uncrossing herbs. Many folks use 13 packets of 13 Herb Spiritual Bath and take a bath every morning for a total of 13 days to clear away a really bad jinx.

You also need 2 white offertory candles and some Uncrossing Oil to dress them. Burning a packet of Uncrossing Incense while you work is said to increase the efficacy of the job as well.

If you believe that enemies have crossed, jinxed, or hexed you, look up the 37th Psalm. This is the one that begins "Fret not thyself with evil-doers..." If you believe that your bad condition today results even in part from your own bad activities in the past, look up the 51st Psalm as well, where hyssop herb is recommended for purification from sin. If you are not a Christian or a Jew, you can still use these herbs; they are traditional for jinx-breaking, Uncrossing and the removal of sin in any case, and instead of a Psalm, just write down your request in your own words that the jinx be lifted and the one who put it on you be struck down.

To prepare the spiritual bath, you arise before dawn, and either brew up the herbs into a tea and strain the liquid or dissolve the Uncrossing mineral crystals in warm water. Then you recite the 37th Psalm for jinx-breaking or the 51st Psalm for purification (or any Uncrossing spell of your choice) as you pour the bath water over your head. If you are taking the 13 Herb Bath, you pour the water and recite your Psalm 13 times for each morning's bath, 13 days in a row. When you have finished the spiritual bath, step out of the tub and light the 2 white candles that have been dressed with Uncrossing Oil. Light the Uncrossingincense next. Stand between the candles. Do not dry yourself with a towel -- let the bath water dry on you in the air as the candles burn and smoke yourself in the incense. Recite your Psalm one more time. If you intend to work this spell for the full 13 days, pinch out the candles (don't blow them out) after a few minutes so you can relight them the next day. If you will be doing the spell only for one day, walk away after you recite your Psalm and just let the candles burn until they go out, no matter how long that takes.

No, that's okay. You don't have to thank me.

Next time anyone goes to the game sprinkle holy water and I hear that if you surround a building with salt it gets rid of evil spirits. It's worth a shot.

I can't believe what I'm reading. I know that this is all in good fun but we need to focus on the team, not some ritual. The kings are sleepwalking through games. The effort is not there. Peja sees a loose ball and waits for someone else to go after it. they just need to focus and play with some intensity. The playoffs are not a lock. they are only 4 games out of the 8th spot and the way they are playing, it is not a streatch to see them fall of of the playoffs. The way the trailblazers are playing, they should win easily. If they lose this game, we all should really worry.

There's an old expression:

"Sometimes you have to laugh to hide the tears."

This thread pretty much became about the rumors of bad luck, curses, etc. because it's much easier to try and put the blame on unknown forces we cannot control than try and solve ALL the problems the team is having right now, especially with the continuing plague of injuries.

Really worry? Why? Our worrying will not change the course of this team. With everything that's gone on in the last 60 days, I'm going to be looking at each game as a chance for Petrie and Adelman and Co. to try and decide which way they want to go in the future. It's a team in transition AND it's a team so severely hampered by injuries that at this point I just want them to make it through as far as they can.

Realisticly as fans we can do nothing MORE than root for our team and sprinkle holly watter, spread salt, burn insences and cut the heads off live chickens (insert religious practice of your choice) we are fans, nothing more.
