Apparently OFFICIAL - Welcome to Life After Artest!!!

I just noticed they have Donte listed at 6'11 on the Kings roster and yesterday they had him listed at 6'9 on the Houston roster. Wow we really got a steal, this kid is growing inches by the day!

Sam Amick interviews Petrie, who gives his thoughts on the trade, rumored offers that never existed, and the current roster.

"Being able to acquire another young talent with size and skill, who should be a natural small forward in the league along with a veteran like Bobby (Jackson) and not sacrifice any real future cap flexibility, that starts to become attractive to you."

nice article and typical Petrie. I particularly liked this part:

On whether the loss of Artest's dominating presence is a positive for the younger Kings...

"You know, if you have a big shade tree, shade's good to a point. But if there's too much shade, then the grass doesn't get to grow. "

Earlier reports on the trade all said $1 million, and every other detail on the trade has been correct, so that's probably the case.

From Amick's article today:

According to Petrie, the pick has declining lottery protections for the Rockets. Should Houston fall into the draft lottery (pick Nos. 1-14), it retains the pick next season. The protections decline from there, though specifics of the progression are not known.

The Kings – who received $1 million in the deal – also sent second-round picks Sean Singletary and Patrick Ewing Jr. to Houston. The removal of their partially guaranteed contracts allowed the team to stay under the league's luxury tax threshold of $71 million.

And I thought AV was getting a bit mushy here in her article, maybe channeling her love for her boy Peja?

Theoretically. With Ron, life is a bowl of … uncertainties. The major issue is whether he accepts a role as the third scoring option and recommits to becoming the league's most physically punishing defender. This is his strength, the essence of his uniqueness. The cat-quick left hand. The thick, powerful legs. The desire to lock down opponents.

I think she needs to start writing romance novels. :D

I know we here speculated that the Kings my pick Singletary up after his release from Houston. Hearing Petrie talk I don't think that is going to happen. Bobby Brown must have really impressed. Which raises the question why do we even keep our second rounders? Hell lets just trade them off every year.

leave Brad out of this.

I hope they go 0-82.

Next season, Rockets losing = good for the Kings. I don't give a crap about warm fuzzies for Adelman. I'm a Kings fan, and I want that draft pick to be as high as possible.

I am pretty sure that our 2009 pick is lottery protected so you may want to nix you wish afterall.

No, because then the next year it can be an even higher pick, and so on. Like some others, while I wish Rick well, I'd like as high a pick as possible whenever we do get it.

Yah but even thought it's said numerous times in this thread in re: to the pick I believe people aren't actually reading the posts, and still think we would have the pick if Houston got #1 next year..

I hope Houston lets Sean Singletary go, and I really hope we pick him back up. I want to see what this kid can do in our uniform.

He was included along with Ewing to keep from going over the luxury tax threshold. If keeping him wouldn't have meant going over, we would have just kept him. So to resign him now, I assume would again put us over. Not going to happen, me thinks.

I know we let go of Sean because of the tax limit. But I’d really like to keep him until the season starts, that way we’d know if SAR will retire or if any other trades happen.

This might be mean/not making logical sense, but I’d rather see Sheldon be part of the Ron trade instead of Sean. I know Sean hasn’t shown anything and Sheldon’s stock is higher cause he’s been in the league and he’s shown what he can do but I just don’t see S. Williams growing anymore, and the sky’s the limit for Singletary.

I don't know if the sky is the limit for Singletary but it is certainly much higher than Sheldon. I'm pretty sure we know what we are getting from Sheldon and it's not much.

Hoopshype is reporting that the Heat offered Dorell Wright and other unattractive pieces for Artest, but we turned them down. As much as I am a fan of Wright, his athleticism and his potential, he just seems to have stagnated and hasn't improved his pathetic handles at all--I'm glad we took on a rookie that we can mold for ourselves in Donte Greene instead.
