Any Interest in Kandi?

If only his contract can expire the minute we pick him up rather than after a year. Haha.

Who can take a good team?
Mess up all its flow...
Stand around and clog the middle...
So K.G. has nowhere to go?
The Kandi Man can!
The Kandi Man can!
The Kandi Man can!

nah, Kwame Brown would be a better gamble than the Kandi Man. Sad but true...
Kwame's hands are the size of a third grader, I'll pass on him too.

He's a big fat zero, no thanks. First Ostertag then him, we don't need that.

I would definitely think about it. I mean, how many guys whose career were "dead" has Rick pulled off the scrap heap? Scott Pollard was a first round "bust", Verfnon Maxwell had fought with team mates, Bibby was a "loser, CWebb was a problem child, Peja was a "soft" euro. I'm just saying, Rick has a way of getting the best out of guys, and finding a role for them. Its unquestionable Kandi has talent, and finding a talented 7 footer is a tought thing to do. If Rick can pull another Rabbit out of his hat, we would suddenly have an athletic big at center and Brad could switch back to the 4. Its a gamble for sure, but one I would definitely have to think about

Just because something has happened, doesn't mean it will happen again.

Kandi may have "talent" but he's been a major disappointment his entire career. Yeah, there's a possibility - but if it doesn't work out, we're out one good shotblocker, rebounder with heart and stuck with a "could have been" instead. No thanks.

P.S. Bibby was a loser? That's just wrong. As far as Webber goes, he might have been a problem child but his production ON THE COURT could not be faulted. You cannot say the same about Kandi. And Peja is STILL a "soft Euro," if you're going to use that designation.

There's a difference between guys who simply have NEVER lived up to what some thought they should and some who just seem to be able to play their best ball under a system like the Kings. Kandi isn't worth taking the chance IMHO.

I agree that it's not likely that he'd pan out in Sacramento, he seems like the type of player who just dosn't like playing basketball very much. But if the current Kings roster isn't working out at midseason he'd be an expiring contract to pair with Peja to get a superstar in return at the trade deadline. If the Kings could get him for Corliss I'd say he's worth the gamble. There's probably a 10% chance he'd turn into a servicable backup center, but there are other advantages to having him on the roster.

See, that's what I don't understand...You're willing to trade away someone with heart, defensive ability, dedication, etc. on a 10% chance that the bozo we're getting in return MIGHT work out?

The aura that surrounds the mystical 7 footers sometimes nearly drives me nuts. Shawn Bradley is 7'6" - shouldn't we therefore do whatever it takes to get him to rethink retiring?

Kandi could be 8 feet tall and it wouldn't automatically make him good. He's been an underachiever, he hasn't really shown any true dedication to the game, etc. Why would that suddenly change simply because he became part of the Kings.

I've used the phrase before: You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. And quite frankly, I've seen Kandi oink enough times to be pretty sure it's a valid comparison.

Somebody actually gets it.

I'm not in favor of getting Kandi for his potential, mainly for the fact that his salary expires at the end of the year, giving the Kings more flexibility going into the trading deadline and the offseason. If he were to actually contribute it would be a nice bonus, and he'd be insurance in case one of our bigs go down. I don't think Williamson is going to play all that much, might as well have a legit 7'0" backup center on the roster. The Kings have players who can back up at 3, they don't really have a true backup center. I don't have a fascination with 7'0" centers, I just think that you should have backups at every position.

Plus, just because Kandi is a disappointment as a #1 pick doesn't mean he can't play. He's got some post moves and his per 48 minute rebounding numbers last year were comporable to Brad Miller's. If he were a 2nd Round pick people would think of him as a pretty good center with good athleticism and decent skills and questionable intensity, but people can't get over the fact that he was such a bust as a #1 overall pick. I'm not saying he's a savior or anything, but since the Kings don't have a true backup center why not take a flyer on the Kandi man?

Because he's just not very good.

And since you're still enthralled with the concept of a "legitimate 7' back-up center," I don't see the point in arguing further. You'd like to see him; I think it would be a cold day in Hell before Kandi showed up in a Kings uniform, unless it was at a Halloween party. He just doesn't fit the mold.

Calling him insurance in case one of our bigs goes down means making a pretty big assumption that he'd be able to step up and fill the role. I don't think there's any evidence to support that, especially in a system like ours.

So, once again, we will apparently agree to disagree.

why dont we go after vlade then? according to realgm, his contract will likely be bought out by the lakers... that'd be nice just to have someone to back up brad for 10-15 minutes....

yeah i know, with the "been there, done that" attitude with ex-kings players... but damn... if not kandi why not divac? who else is left?

Well, if we can't get someone of quality, then my preference would be to leave well enough alone. Some of you sound as though we are so desperate that we have to go begging for table scraps.

If you have faith in Geoff Petrie, then keep the faith a while longer. Most of you have repeatedly said you think he's doing a good to great job, so why try and second-guess him with bargain basement closeouts? I have no doubt that Petrie has a plan - and I'm reasonably sure based on a lot of years of watching him that whatever it is, a) we aren't going to figure it out ahead of time, and b) it won't be settling for some Dollar Tree special.

Keep the faith...

GO KINGS!!!!!

then use him for trade bait lol

Trade bait for what? In order to get someone to trade FOR Kandi, you'd have to convince them he'd be better than what they already have... Petrie's good, but I don't know if he's THAT good.

;)

Vlade for assistant coach.

Work alongside Rick and show SAR Vlade's diverse array of post moves and veteran savvy.

Does anyone not think this is a good idea?
