Hall of Famer
This url was purchased by someone or some company in Scottsdale, AZ on February 23, 2011. The timing makes me nervous.

The timing of the purchase and the city makes me think it is the Maloofs or someone who plans on having something called Anaheim Royals. It's not proof of anything but the timing might mean that someone got a serious thought about such an entity on or before that date.

The days are gone when any person could buy a URL and get paid a lot of money from the real Anaheim Royals.

This was found by cstorm and more technical details are posted elsewhere.

The Maloofs are from Albuquerque, NM., isn't that right?

I don't know of any reason why anyone would want to buy that name unless something like that exists or will exist. I know it doesn't mean it is a basketball team. It just seems like odd timing.

It is a fact, significance unknown. If this thread is of no interest, it will die its natural death very quickly much unlike the long discussion of Westphal benching Cousins for tonight's game - which wasn't a fact.

That would tend to suggest it has nothing to do with The Maloofs, wouldn't it?

It doesn't.

Domains By Proxy is an Internet company based in AZ and their purpose is to offer domain privacy.

I wouldn't read into it too much.

You could always call to find out who the administrator is. I bet someone from the media could get it done.

Here is their web site:

https://www.domainsbyproxy.com/Default.aspx

According to their web site:

In special situations, it may be necessary for Domains By Proxy to reveal your name and personal information, such as:

* When required by law, or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary in order to conform to the edicts of the law
* To comply with a subpoena or other legal process served upon us
* To resolve any and all third party claims, whether threatened or made, arising out of your use of a domain name registered by Domains By Proxy on your behalf

Godady.com is based in Scottsdale.

Domains by proxy is part of Godady, and they serve to keep who is signing private. Also in Scottsdale.

The location means nothing.

As said above domains by proxie is just that... it's a private way to hide the owner, the public nor anyone else can't get the owners info. Unless that is that site is breaking some law and a subpoena is obtained.

Give it up on finding the owner, not gonna happen.

Sounds to me that it is pretty damn close to a done deal. If you do a whois lookup on powerbalancepavilion.com, they are using the same Domains by Proxy. powerbalancepavilion.com was a live site earlier this week with a mockup of what the site would look like (which actually looked pretty good - very flash driven though). It has since been password protected. If you look at the date of when the domain was registered, it was October 26, 2010 and is only registered for a year. We didn't find out until mid-January about the Power Balance Pavilion name. The Maloofs obviously were very close to inking the deal for them to purchase the name ahead a time.

I know that anybody can register a domain name and make it private, but I truly think that some sort of deal is pretty close to happening. Hence, the request for extension.

Yes, we can all now move on to a new thread: "Who on this forum is trying to rig the Maloofs?"

I think a poll is in place…:p

It's common practice for speculators to buy up prospective urls on the cheap before something big happens and then selling them off to said large company or corporation for a thousand times the original price of the domain. When JK Rowling announced prospective titles of the 7th Harry Potter book, a couple of intrepid people bought the domain names for each of the titles in the hopes that, when it came movie time, Warner Bros would buy it back from them. For all we know, this is the case here.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand case and point. Ha.

I should probably read all of the posts on a thread before posting "helpful" comments.

I have kicked myself 1000 times for missing out on these types of opportunities. I guess I just don't have the domain squatter gene! Damn.

icann.org makes rulings when there are disputes about domain names. Here is a small part of it.

Do not read it unless you are interested and I don't think many people will find it interesting. This person is not guaranteed a windfall because a company with a copyrighted name can appeal and here is a small part of what they must prove to win.

Part of what the Anaheim Royals would have to prove is bad faith. Here is part of how they would do it.

b. Evidence of Registration and Use in Bad Faith. For the purposes of Paragraph 4(a)(iii), the following circumstances, in particular but without limitation, if found by the Panel to be present, shall be evidence of the registration and use of a domain name in bad faith:

(i) circumstances indicating that you have registered or you have acquired the domain name primarily for the purpose of selling, renting, or otherwise transferring the domain name registration to the complainant who is the owner of the trademark or service mark ........ for valuable consideration in excess of your documented out-of-pocket costs directly related to the domain name; or blah, blah, blah.

As I already know the intent because I have the private message indicating such, I will happily provide that data to the Anaheim Royals, if they should ever exist. :)

The notion has occurred to me several times. I just simply don't want to take the risk of squatting on the wrong domain.

Let's just hope that that data will forever rest, shall we?

Huh? I'm sure it's going live on March 1st when the name changes goes live. It's actually kinda funny that it was out there at all. Talk about lack of compitance. Hi we are offical in 2 days, but hey our website is out there now. Oh too soon, take it down.

If you do a google search on it you get cached results.

It's more likely that the power balance group owns the domain not the maloofs. It's their trademark. Think of it this way, if they wanted to use it on a different arena in the future it would be their name not the maloofs.

It was probably registered when they first got serious about the discussions. If anything since they haven't grabbed a bunch of names could be a good sign because they really havent thought it all out yet.

BTW anaheimkings.com was registered back in 2003. Currently has a poker club page.
