Given the way we ended the last season and the loss of three stalwarts/starters in the last year combined with GP's tightlipped style and the lack of wiggle room we find ourselves in I think it's quite normal for all of us to be apprehensive. This is something I keep telling myself 50 times a day as I search for hints or clues about what may or may not happen on the internet. But I also recognize that given our position in the heirarchy of the way things are done in the offseason in the NBA we're not likely to make any significant trades until most of the off season moves have been made by others. In fact I can see us starting the next season with several guys who won't be there at the trade deadline. And for this reason I am trying to convince myself that we will probably have a tough time making the playoffs let alone getting to the second round. But then I've always had low expectations so that any surprises are pleasant ones.

I don't think the first one will go, both for the reasons you've labeled as negative AND because I don't think Petrie will bring Jason back to Sacramento.

The Skinner one is interesting, but I'm not convinced SAR is worth a first round pick...

I would like the third one best, but I don't see either team doing it.

I remember Jason saying racial slurs to some fans and being pissed about being traded, but what other reasons are there that would make Petrie rule out bringing him back? When I first looked at Memphis, I had a real trouble matching salaries and making it reasonable to both sides. But reconsidering, what if the teams were able to do a Williams and Wells for Bibby straight across? Trouble is Williams and Wells combined make a little more than a million more than the new CBA will allow to do that trade. Wells is looking at having his option declined and having to accept either an offer from a team like Atlanta and continue losing or accept a multi-year one starting at the mid-level. If he agreed to start just below 7 million it would work and considering his other option he might agree. Memphis would be looking at upgrading their PG position while at the same time getting rid of two players they don't want. That would be better than letting one walk and getting gargabe for the second. (my earlier use of Williamson and Posey made it a strech to say the least) The Kings downgrades the starting PG position at the same time it makes a major upgrade in the SG position. I believe there would be a net gain. There has been a lot of talk of how soft the interior of the Kings defense is along with how it starts with the guards being blown by. It is possible to mask the Kings weaknesses on the interior by upgrading the exterior. Give while getting.

In the above, if Wells kept his head on straight he would be a good trading chip down the road if necessary.

As far as SAR being worth a first, I'm not entirely convinced either. On the other hand, next years draft is being projected to be very weak and not very deep. If the Kings are able to get a valuable piece to fill a gaping hole on the cheap then it might be worth it. I don't understand Portland. If it is so bad to let Mobley walk for nothing, how much worse is it to let a big (SAR) go for nothing? Skinners salary is neither large (less than the mid-level) or long (this coming year and next with the following the teams option). Skinner at least on paper looks like it would fill a gaping hole for them. They wanted a first with NJ. SAR would address one of the Kings issues this off season and if it cost them a first, so be it!, I guess? Defensive improvement in the guard positions would help the front line of the team.

As far as the third part of my earlier ramblings go, Corliss with his shorter contract might be more attractive to the Clippers. Having a PG that could defend would be wonderful and Jaric seems to have that ability. That would leave the Kings with Thomas to be a super sixth man backing up both the PF and SF positions. (tough didlies if he don't like it, he's making enough to compensate) One hell of a price to paid (losing Jackson) considering the influence he's having with at least one of the youngsters. I would love it if the Clippers would just take Thomas for him but I'm dreaming.

Jason Williams isn't the answer either. We KNOW that. Bonzi Wells is an interesting idea, but he's certainly nothing worth doing anything silly over.

It shouldn't be interesting at all. I would love to have Wells in a Kings uniform but not at that cost.

why am i thinking about it? because someone posted it and i wanted to think of the pros/cons in the trade. no where did i say it was a good trade, just an interesting thought. to stop the questioning, i will say this. i would not do the trade.
